Best remote oil filter location
Where have you guys that use one, found to put a remote oil filter. Seems there is little room, and often too high from original location presents problems, but m not sure of what kind of problem....Thoughts

I struggled with this. Most room was on passenger side firewall but would require lots of oil lines. I settled with driver side fender. I routed lines up through inside fender area to clear headers. Used a larger filter and allows me to route lines down to oil cooler.
I'll get a better pic later. I straightened it out and cleaned up everything for final install.

Yep really close quarters in there, will have to see how much is left after I do some front end reshaping, but thanks for your photos, that gives me one option. If I have a lot of hose, I might try moving the it way forward.

The best plan is to not relocate it. A lot of the Cobra guy struggle with the same thing, and then end up leaving it where it is. BUT, it's a common practice to turn the filter 90* to allow it to fit properly. Easy, inexpensive, less weight, and fewer leak points.

If you do relocate it, use billit parts and AN hoses. No rubber hoses and clamps. That's a catastrophic failure waiting to happen.

On my 5.0 swap, I used a sandwich type adapter to run an oil cooler and switched to a police package oil filter (which is smaller) and clears the power steering lines.
On my LS2 swap, the addition of the Moroso aluminum oil pan eliminated the stock ports on the side of the pan that would have allowed me to easily add an oil cooler. Using a sandwich plate was out of the question as it lowered the oil filter too low and made it the lowest part of the engine. My only option was to relocate the filter so that I could then add an oil cooler plate at the new location. The oil cooler plate also allows me to add oil psi and oil temp gauges.

That is actually a part off an Econoline van that you can find in a salvage yard for around $5.00 if you decide to go that route.

A shorter filter would be ok, knowing to change it and oil filter anyway....,,But thinking a bit more about it, I do want to run a cooler, so the hoses option would be my ticket

Oil is heated by RPM's. Lots of RPM's. Unless you're road racing, and oil cooler is not a good idea. On the street it will be tough to get the oil warm enough to work properly.

I was under the impression that a thermostat could be used with an oil cooler? I have an oil pan for an LS that lacks an oil filter provision. Anyone have any idea where it originally came from? Living in Florida I'm more concerned about cooling the thing down. Heat index right now is 109. Thanks,David

Here in Florida, we have no problem getting oil hot, and yes Bob, I will track this car, and have run coolers in many of my cars even in the coast California, and in my race car going back to when I first got my SCCA license in 1970. The newer oils help, but I don't trust things to go my way all of the time. I can no longer afford to have engines rebuilt. I do get scared when I see many of the members saying just add one more quart of oil when you track your car...That could cause a bigger problem then using a cooler as the crank will start to make the oil foam, then bad things start too happen. Build or buy a proper sump with side gates to contain the oil at the pickup, and thus solving the starvation issue....Now aren't you all glad you woke this old man up....free advice anytime even if not asked for...Bob, I think you built one of my cages when I lived in COS?? Grate cage for that GTP car...Thanks
