Default RX-7 Rear swap

I have a 93 miata that I am putting a ford 5.0 in...the only thing i have left to do is find a rear that will work and will be easy to do with little or no fab work and that is also cheap. I have heard that rx-7 rear ends can be used and i was wondering if it is bolt in or what work would have to be done and what part i would actually need...any information is greatly appreciated!

It's not a bolt in and you'd hate the gearing. Go with the 7.5 Ford rear and pick up the mounting equipment from Martin.

the martin rear end on monstermiata.com...that kit mounts in with no fabrication? and then do you still use the stock miata suspension and everything or how does that work?

You still weld a bracket to the front of the subframe (subframe comes down with a few bolts and can go to any decent welder), but the rest is bolt in. I think the only true bolt in setup is the BF mount but it interferes with exhaust. Your suspension stays OEM miata. Just give Martin a call when you have an hour or two free to talk.

No problem. You should post a build thread on the forum so we can see the progress. Even if its not pretty, they are still cool, and a great place to ask questions as you go.

You still have to get the RX7 hubs turned/machined down to match the Miata hubs diameter and length. And create a custom front hanger, which isn't as easy as it should be because the (TII) diff has such a long nose.

I never really minded the 4.10 ratio in my TII rear but I did just enough racing to justify it.

I've bought a 7.5" kit though and will be swapping over to it during the winter, I'm just not really happy with how the brakes and hubs are set up on it.

Awesome. Thanks for all the info guys. I willbe purchasing the 7.5 rear kit and see how that goes. I am still in the process of buying all the parts for the car and the motor right now. Once I truly get started on the project I will be sure to start a build thread to follow. Thanks again for the help!

Be sure to remove the plastic brake line retainers from the sub-frame before welding on the mounting bracket.
