Pulled out the tranny that I had rebuilt myself as it was make my a whining/whirring noise in all gears and neutral, that I felt was one of the front bearings. I got the tranny out and was able to wiggle the input shaft a lot, so it appears the preload was set too loose. Tore it apart, and everything inside looks good, so I was just thinking of re-shimming the input shaft to correct the preload, and put it back in. Only has a few hundred miles on it since the rebuild. Think this sounds right, or should I replace the bearings? I put the race on the input bearing, and it spins freely, no binding. Thoughts?

 

 

I keep looking at it, and still have not found any issues. Really leaning towards just re-setting endplay at .000 and buttoning it up.

 

What does the bearing look like on the end of the main shaft? The needle bearing that the input shaft slides over.

 

I have the non-tapered bearing setup. The face of the mainshaft that contacts the needles in the input shaft looks perfect, no damage.

 

Put it back together after re-setting the endplay at .000, installed it and it appears to be good to go, no more whining, runs/shifts smooth.
