Default CV Joint Boot Replacement

Hi, new here and I will introduce myself later.

I have an FM built V8 NB with the CTS differential and halfshafts from V8 Roadsters. One inner boot is torn and I am in the process of replacing it. I have the halfshaft out of the car and the old boot cut off.

I have not been able to remove the joint from the shaft. I looked at a couple of youtube videos and they show driving the inner cage of the ball bearings off the shaft past a snap ring using a hammer.

Before I do this I would like to know if the CV joints on the V8 Roadsters half shafts come off the same way or is there something different I need to do?

Thanks for the help.

After much hammering with a brass drift I gave up on getting the inner CV joint off the shaft and removed the outer joint which came right off, cleaned up the shaft and slid the new boot on from that end. Reassembled the outer joint and all is well again.

All of the inners that I have done required sliding a c-clip/retainer towards the outer joint, sliding the tripod joint down to expose the "hidden" c-clip, & removing said clip to remove tripod joint.

This inner CV joint (and the outer as well) is the ball bearing type rather than the tripod type of CV joint, there is no c clip there to remove. I could see that the inner race of the ball bearings was seated against a boss on the shaft.

Exactly, how did you do this? Are we talking about this end (outer), that goes into the spindle?

Or this end (inner), that goes into the pumpkin?

During the test fit, I noticed that the outer boot contacts the coil over just a smidgen. Might as well replace the boots before installation. Going to use the Audi boot. I hope it fits.

That's a different joint than on my car. Mine came right off with little force.

I need to replace this boot. During trial assembly, I noticed that one of the boots touched the shock body just a smidgen.

How do I get this joint apart? I whacked it with a hammer a couple of times, but it didn't budge. I don't want to break it.

Or would it be easier to take this joint apart?
