So i want to build a miata...
So i have a late 80's early 90's 5.0 and t5 with ecu...im curious approximately what founds i would need to get the 5.0 in a miata and driving. Simply speaking anyone have a rough idea of a grand total for a 5.0 v8 swapp without doing suspension breaks, etc....?delete if post is in wrong place

cost depends on your talent and available metal working tools. V8 without brake upgrades would not be recommended, lol, younger generation, always worried about going fast but not so worried about slowing down, hehe. Be prepared to spend at least $10 000 and 1500 hrs if you are doing all the work yourself as you will find out that EVERYTHING will have to be moved / modified to get all this to work. Don't bother with the stock rear if you are using a V8, your fun time will be short

Including engine, transmission and rear end, i have $8300 and somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 hrs into my drive-train alone. I did all of the labor and fabricated a ton of parts myself that i could have bought out but I did spend all of the money saved on a v8r subframe and a foxbody megasquirt.

I have a completed car (Monster kit)... sorted and in excellent running order and cosmetic condition for $10K firm.
I bought it 90% finished and completed the details... new starter, alt, fuel pump, battery, fan switch, gauges.
Great(!) grocery getter on nice days (no roof leaks on a rainy day!) and a sleeper at car shows.
I'm selling it as i'm ready for the 'next car' of involvement!... but will keep this if i don't get my price!

I purchased a 5.0 Monster miata in 9/2019. Within a week I twisted up a piston like a pretzel through oil starvation. The PO has jbwelded so much on the custom oil pan that the oil pickup got clogged.
I just finished a 5.0 from an 87 Mustang GT and replaced the ruined engine. I still think my two “hind cylinders” (4, 8?) aren’t working 100%.
I hear a near constant backfire emanating from the right side of the engine whenever I even slightly lug the engine. I’m guessing ECU problems but I’m not sure and basically clueless.
Should I post this question to a different forum?

HO or Non HO
I truly don't know if its HO or non. Whatever it is its running like hell and my 4 cylinder one would outrun it currently. This is so frustrating because its such a fine looking car. Constant backfiring if I'm just lugging the engine slightly. Under very light throttle the car seems to do alright at 2000 rpm. The car sounds rather sweet at idle.

Ok. This is where my V8 miata build stands.
I got it back from the body shop where the guy painted it 1955 Thunderbird Blue and installed a blueprinted 5.0 from an 87 Mustang. Drove it nearly 10 miles from that shop to mine. The mechanic had the firing order wrong
13726548 is correct. Not sure exactly what he had but cylinder 4, 8 weren’t working.
The car ran blissfully fast for about a mile or two and overheated. The water pump was rotating in the wrong direction. Thank You Mr Martin Wilson for that valuable info nugget.
The shop that put the water pump in and the car has run horrible since. Once again they messed up the firing order.
My old mechanic stopped by today and immediately diagnosed it as filthy gas. Not enough fuel pressure. We drained the tank and it did look very nasty. The fuel pump was clogged. Didn’t even get to filter.
What fuel pump should I use in the 5.0? Should I have the fuel injectors all cleaned or just get new ones or leave them be? Should I use a stock Miata pump and filter? Should I clean out tank?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the heads up on the HO firing sequence. That got the car running insanely fast with about a 30 second repair and not even getting my hands dirty.
