Default Adventures with the V8 Miata and the Cobra page 2

This event actually started a year ago with the alternator going out 8 miles out of town at 4:30 am. It was a beautiful sunrise but lousy day! The Corvette club graciously let me use the registration from that event for their next scheduled event, 11 months later!

Trouble struck again in my co-drivers 3rd run leaving him stranded mid track. The dreaded Miata main relay failure got me. You'll notice a wire dangling on the passenger door in the video. That wire used to run my exhaust cut out but for the day it ran the fuel pump. I did have a spare main relay but I wanted to take some load off it so ran the borrowed exhaust wire from the wiper circuit to the fuel pump reducing the load on the relay by about half.

Anyway this was easily the best autocross I have run in years. When I walked the course I thought it was going to be terrible. It had 2 road course style chicanes in it, 3 over 90 degree turns around a single cone and 2 slaloms that were 15 paces apart. (20 is tight, 22 OK and 24 a walk in the park) The good news is the slaloms were not directly in line but a few feet apart in width so it was doable.

So I was dreading this mess but it turned out to be the best course ever! It had so many ways you could mess up it was just delightful. And the icing on the cake the Cobra was there again and I got the visit with him this time. He is probably the only person on the planet actually less competitive than me!

The video tells the story but this really should not be watched on a phone. A big screen and good sub will and much to the experience!

This video is well done - nice work on that steering wheel as you work your butt off! You're representing this group well!

BTW, I'm guessing that we have our fuel pumps wired differently. I did a stand-alone harness conversion from BP Automotive (on-line and a good guy) that has its own Delphi starter, fans, a/c, and fuel pump relays and necessary fuses. The GM PCM and fuse blocks get their power straight off the battery (with its own in-line circuit breaker. Don't think my Miata main fuse has much more than lighting and interior fan, etc running thru it at this point... Just thinking back in time, here... Glad you got to enjoy the event!!!

You have to give me a heads up the next time you run at DCTC. I live close to that track.
