Default noob from noob jersey

well for starters ive owned 3 miata a 92 a 95 and now another 92 . i work on the side at a performance shop in shiloh ,nj matt hill motorsports. its a ford specialty shop mainly focused on tuning its a 17,000 sq/ft facility in the country. and although i am doing the work at a ford shop i am doing an LS1 swap in my miata :0 ::gasp:: lol i am currently in the tear down stage selling all my old parts and buying all the stuff needed for the swap. parts list so far
-98 ls1
-03 cobra 8.8 rear
-99 ecu from T/A
-boss frog rear mounting kit
i am looking for
- t56 transmission
-99-02 ls1 wiring harness
there a million other odds and ends i am looking for to but those are the major points. i have been in talks about doing a motor plate for the engine rather then buying the subframe. also i will be doing my own through the floor frame rails and cutting my stock beat up ones out.

i could probably go on for days about the ideas that are up in the air but ill spare everyone for now lol. im open for any questions comments or suggestions if any one has them. im looking foward to talking with all of you through the whole process of this swap!!

Welcome! It's good to see another local on the site.

-There's a member here who used a motor plate on his when he did it back a few years ago before there was a kit. He still modified his subframe for exhaust clearance though. His buld sounds very simular to what you're planning on embarking upon. Here's a link to his profile:

Visit his profile page and shoot him a pm if he does not respond here himself. I'm sure he'd be able to give you some tips on how to get this done.

-If you have trouble finding a T-56 have you though about a T-5 with an adapter bell housing? They are more than a stock bell but no more than a typical steel blowproof housing and T-5's can be built to your spec for half the cost of a used T-56.

-The 8.8 is a good rear and the Boss frog mount is stout. What it does not allow is a lot of room for exhaust. Us "old school" Ford guys have been using the Ford 7.5 rears for the last 15 years with sucess. They can be found with limited slip for under $40 in this area of the country and leave a good amount of room for a true dual exhaust setup. Monster Miata sells the whole mounting system for them for $1000, all you would need to add is the diff and two donor thunderbird axles.

Good luck with it, make sure to start a build gallery so we can all watch as you progress through it!

-Jason
