Default New member intro

I'm new to the V8 Miata community - just bought a white '92 with a pretty well built injected '92 Mustang GT engine / trans.

The car was built back in 2004/2005 timeframe in Alabama. The original owner put about 40k miles on it after the conversion. At some point in time, he decided to do a serious rebuild on the engine. The engine came out and was rebuilt - but the engine never got back in the car.

A good friend of mine - mrmustang - bought the car last fall. He hauled it home to PA and got it all put together and in good running condition. When he found out I was heading from FL to PA to pick up my '02 Miata (with MP62 SC and TDR intercooler), he told me he'd take it as partial trade on the '92. Well, to make a long story short - he gave me a deal on it that was above the 'hoped for' price but was below the 'I will have to politely decline' price.

I left his house around 3:00 Saturday afternoon and drove it to Florida. I got home around 5:30 yesterday.

The car is a blast to drive! I'm looking forward to many miles of smiles with it.

I also have a FactoryFive Mark II 'Cobra' that I built and have had on the road since June 2006. While I am very new to the V8Miata community - I'm not new to Miatas or high performance cars. My wife has a stock Mazdaspeed Miata with about 38K miles on it.

Wait a minute, they let "YOU" in, there goes the neighborhood

PS: For those that don't know, Steve and I did a two day trip to Florida with his Factory Five Cobra and his wife's MSM Miata back in September Top down the whole way . Steve was also who helped me sort out the Blue Monster Miata on our way back from Sarasota. Seems his wife got hooked on the V8 while we were there

Great story welcome to the forum! Interesting how many V8 Miata guys also have Cobras around here. That's a puzzlement to me because while I love my Miata if there was a Cobra sitting next to it in the garage the Miata would never move!

I use my Miata as my "beater car". LOL

They both have their place, the Cobra is more raw, the V8 Miata is more civilized. Having owned multiples of both, I see the beauty in having a choice. Truth be known though, my wife will not drive the Cobra as it scares her, yet a comparable V8 Miata (hp vs weight), I have a tough time getting the keys back from her.

Thanks for the welcome! I hope I will eventually be able to share knowledge, right now I'm going to be doing a lot of reading out here.

I agree with Bill on the Cobra issue. One thing he overlooked is that a Miata has a top and side windows. You CAN drive it in the rain and not get wet.

My wife drove my Cobra once. She did it just to make sure that she could drive it if it was ever necessary (i.e. we took it somewhere and I couldn't drive it back home). I'm sure she will have no issue in driving the Monster (when I let her have the keys).

My Monster will be my 'beater' too. It has regular insurance on it. The Cobra has a collector policy which is cheaper than the Miata but there are a lot of limitations on not only the total miles driven per year but where you can and can't drive it.

I drive mine at least three days a week unless it snows. It lives on the street infront of my house. There is really no situation in which I'd drive a "normal" Miata that you can't drive a V8 one...that's one of the coolest aspects of these cars I think.

Jason,

Don't know if you remember me or not, but you took me out for a ride during the DelVal event at Pocono last year (I'm in my late 50's, wear glasses and just a few wisps of hair on the top of my head!). I had a black supercharged NB and also brought my dark red Cobra with silver stripes. I think I did one session with the Cobra the rest were in my black NB. I don't remember if it was Monday or Tuesday, but I definitely enjoyed the ride with you. That was a definite factor in me buying the one I just got.

You'll be getting an order from me for A/C hoses in the near future. BTW - not sure if you know but the link for your 'Builds' page is broken on your website.
