Default New member here!

Hello everyone! I recently got a 1992 Miata that had belonged to my parents. They never drove the thing and both just bought new vehicles so its been sitting under a car cover for a while. It's a tired old 1.6l with almost 200,000 miles in it. My dad has always wanted to put a V8 into it but never had the time or funds or the ability. Fortunately I have all of these. This will be a father/son project, (mostly son) but I figured I would stop in and say hello. They "gifted" me the car so I am only in the car for registration and insurance which was about $300 and included my insurance for the next year. So I have a great platform. I don't want to dump a ridiculous amount of money into it. I can get a 5.0 motor for free and I am thinking that I will go with the "monster" miata swap. I know the LS motors produce more HP but the fact that I won't have but the cost of the monster miata kit as well as the trans and rear and whatever I do to the free motor is my biggest thing. I want around 300-400hp out of this thing. If you have any comments, questions, criticism please feel free. And as to my experience I am an ASE certified Automotive technician by trade and carry many certifications and a few degrees in automotive technology. I don't mean that to sound like I am cocky or rude or anything of the sort. I just wanted that to be known so that I do actually have the know how to complete this swap. Thanks guys! Have a great night!

-David.

Wow you have been blessed with a wonderful situation to have the chops to make it happen and the ideal car. Nothing wrong at all with a Ford builds. It's tried and true and if you can keep your HP expectations in check by far the cheapest way to go. But for you it's the intangibles of the father son build of a car that has been in the family for now 2 generations that will be worth far more than the $$ that goes in your car. My Miata came from my son unintended and unexpected too and it's good stuff to have him involved as he can.

You have come to the right place for info for sure. If you have not been there yet check out Jasons builds at
McCully Racing Motors- Our Builds...we're doing our part to help empowering Miatas one car at a time...

Also check out this epic Ford thread:
https://www.v8miata.net/general-miat...nfo-fords-779/

Jason is a heck of a nice guy and a walking talking encyclopedia of ford builds. He has been most helpful to me in my build and a great resource.

I’m really glad you jumped in on the forum amd am looking forward to seeing your build come together! Welcome!!

Thank you for the links! I have ordered the monster miata instruction guide and plan to read it front to back. I will post in the build thread as soon as I can take some pictures of her and get them on here.
