Default Well, I'm back in the game!! New mild 302 street build

So after building and selling my track 302 using Martin's kit and then building and selling an LS2 using the V8 Roadster kit, I am finally back in the game to build another 302 using Martins's kit. This time my focus will be on a sleeper street Miata with AC and all the other comforts of a daily driver.

I took time away to build my RX-7 FD with an LS6 and massive turbo for the Texas Mile. Had a great time and still have that car. Made 650 at the wheels and ran a 196 in the mile. The fuel cut out at rev limit about 30 yards shy, so I believe I topped 200! I will continue to work on this car and have it ready by the Texas Mile October 2019.

In the meantime, I just picked up all the parts from Topdownfun to build another V8 miata. I'm sorry to hear about his misfortune, but at least he and his wife are okay. I will put everything to good use and get an opportunity to play with my fabrication skills and use my imagination to create another unique MONSTER!

I will be looking for a clean NA 1990-1994 (25 years old to beat emission requirement in TX).

I will be traveling with the military until July time frame, so not sure when I will get started, but just wanted to drop a lone and get back involved in the forum.

The front subframe was damaged in the accident and I plan on fabbing up my own, but if anyone has a 302 front subframe already modified laying around, let me know.

CAN'T WAIT!!!! Stay tuned.

TDF sure supplied a great starter kit! I'm sticking around for the big reveal in a few months. Know it'll be good.

Good Luck,
RonR

This will be a bit new to me as it is a SN95 engine/harness. I wan to run smog free with AC and have been reading all the SN95 threads I can find. Looks like I can put the AC in place of smog pump and avoid the frame notch some have done. Wiring will be fun AGAIN! I will be using the CCRM and need to get that figured out. I just reached out to Jason to see what it would take to freshen up my harness. My plan is to do the cleanest install possible and take my time in the engine bay.

Hey Gunpilot it was a huge pleasure to meet you yesterday, and I'm glad to see the bones of my Miata being put to great use. You are doing what I would have done if I were re-working mine. And probably better! Thank you for your service--and like the others I'm looking forward to your progress.
Regards,
TDF

Well, I kept looking at the stock 302 sitting on the stand and could not take it! I had a 302 block around and decided to build a performance engine. Bored it out to .30 over, notched the pistons for higher lift with aluminum Twisted Wedge heads and hydraulic roller rockers. Got a custom grind on a cam to give it some nice lope. Stabbing in some 30lbs injectors, 70 mm throttle body and calibrated mas airflow sensor. On top is a fully ported GT40 intake upper and lower. I will switch all the SN95 accessories from my stock motor onto the new block as I build it.

I am traveling to Fort Rucker, AL for a military course late April and will be there for 3 months. I am trailering my LS6 boosted RX-7FD to finish it up, but will also bring all my Monster Miata build parts. I plan on sourcing a 1990-1994 Miata locally to start my build while there. I have already reserved a long term space in the base auto garage to start wrenching. I will try to keep those interested updated on the progress. The RX-7 is priority because I want to take it back to the Texas Mile in October 2019.

These are the best I could find for now. The car has been stored since last Texas Mile in October 2018.

Default Getting to work

I have arrived at Fort Rucker, Al for the next 3 months and brought t plenty of work to do. The. RX-7 should be out of the stall shortly and then on to the Miata. I was fortunate enough to find a local donor car. Previous owner wanted to do a swap and removed all the running gear and then gave up. That’s perfect for me. I inspected it, and the removal looks clean. For now, all the swap parts are getting cleaned up and ready for install.

How hard is it to get access to the base shop? Is it in high demand, or are there more spaces than car guys?

They have like 20 bays. Plenty of room. Very nice people and have every tool you could use. Even though I brought most of my tools, there are still some I need to borrow real quick. I rented out a long term bay with a lift and am in there almost every day after work. People come in and out all day long to do quick oil changes, shocks, brakes, etc. Pretty nice space.

Default Donor car

Here is a quick pic of the donor. A well kept after 1997. I’ll show some close up pics once I get it cleaned up and out of trailer. Looks black in the pics, but she is a bass boat blue! That’s right, she sparkles. Lol. It is different, but so am I.

Default Not a bad donor

Got it out of the trailer and a quick scrub. Not a bad $600 donor. You can see the blue candy paint. Lol
