1990 / 5.0 Miata build
I am starting with a budget of $18,000 with a goal to not only build a "quick" Miata but also one that looks damn good sitting still. With that in mind I found the cleanest Miata I have ever seen.... The best part is that I picked it up for $1500 because it had 240,000 miles on it.
The motor is out of a 1990 Fox body. It was a complete pull out with a T5, ECU, and harness. All total, $600
I am planning on selling the wheels and Transmission off the Miata.... and whatever else I can sell too. Probably going to sell the seats and make room for some Corbeaus or Sparcos, something with more bolster for my beer gut.
The next step is to wait for my income tax return which will cover the Martins kit plus shipping. That money should hit next week.
After that will be the purchase of the 7.5 diff, again from Martin.
In the meantime the motor is going out to the shop to get all prettied up with stock internals and a 303 cam and new rod bolts. I am still up in the air of which heads I want to use.
I am very fortunate to have a best friend that owns a 7000 sq ft performance shop complete with 4 lifts, endless tools, air, and yes..... A brand new DynoJet dyno!
Stay tuned!!!

Have you seen this? https://www.v8miata.net/parts-sale-5...5-0-swap-2061/
The missing parts (oil pan, throttle cable adapter, clutch master cylinder & line, rear axles, broached hubs, rear end hangers, engine mounting plates, & transmission crossmember are the only things that I see missing. You could probably make half of that stuff & still save $2000.

parts are slowly trickling in. the engine is at EXCESSIVE RACING ENGINES getting a face lift along with GT40 aluminum heads, comp cam, and new rod bolts. The stock pistons are forged so they will be used. I picked up a built 7.5 rear end with an lsd and 500hp axles. This week I will be sending the 5.0 oil pan to Martin to be rebuild.
we got bored and dyno'd the stock Miata..... 100 rwhp / 94 ft tq

I've been in limbo on the build waiting for my bonus check. Well it's coming this week!
The motor is done and ready for me to pick up:
1990 Foxbody 302, stock forged pistons, new ARP rod bolts, new ARP head bolts, new seals, New timing chain, New water pump and cover, New GT40x turbo swirl heads, aluminum rollers, new lifters, x303 cam, no ps, AC, or smog, Procomp polished upper/lower intake with 76mm tb and egr delete, Ford Lightning 90mm MAF, 42 lb injectors, and Professional products fuel rail kit and regulator.
I will be using the stock A9P EEC and SCT switch chip with custom tunes.
Gunmetal 13 lb buddy Club wheels wrapped in Nitto NT01's (245/45/15) all around
Aeromotive 340 lph E85 safe pump
7 Row oil cooler
Stock T5 with a short shifter
MSD distributor, MSD cap, MSD coil, MSD plug wires
spark plugs????
Racing beat sway bars (front and rear) with new end links
Corbeau racing seats with 4 point harnesses
Godspeed Mono SS coilovers with adjustable ride height and damping
Wilwood 11" front brakes
Powerslot rear rotors with stock calipers
SS brake lines
Custom roll cage
Prothane bushing kit
and of course Martins Kit with custom 7.5 rear end w/ tru-track
I am sure I am missing a few things.
My goal is to have ALL the parts in by the end of March and to have the car on the road by June. With the shop, mechanic, fabricator, lift, tools, air, and dyno I have at my disposal it shouldn't take long.
