Default Newer Rear Sumps

I see that the relatively newer 302s have a short front sump, and a deeper rear sump, and are advertised as rear sump. Do the present a problem with interfering with the cross member and steering? If so how would I get around it? I really would like to use a Ford in my Miata, and this is one of my question points...Thanks

The pan is modified to fit the cross member.

Thanks, I'll look around to see if there are any photos, or dimensions of where to cut etc.

Here's one possibility:

MiataV8 Conversion: Modified Ford 302 oil pan

The real interference is the top of the steering rack, so it's a fairly small area to deal with.

Thanks Mike, That was just what I was looking for...BTW, I live up in Seminole....May need to learn some from you. I have built several cars before, but no Miatas. At 70, I need another good car project, and I have a new car lift in my garage to boot...Fred

So, you're probably less than an hour away. My little hobby shop is near the Sarasota-Bradenton airport. At any given time there are usually a couple of V8 Miatas floating around. Jack Dahlmann (fun02se) did his here, and Jim Reid is about to finish his up soon. So, if you're in the area, stop by.

I pm'd phone no.

Very nice, yes we go down to Sarasota frequently (wife and Bradenton-Ellenton and a new lift that I just installed. I too have a shop/garage at my home it is 1800 sqft. I used to race in SCCA many years ago, and build cars, but not Miatas. I would love to meet some of you, and get going on this project. I am currently looking of a good donor car and there are many in our area...Give me a call anytime weekends or after work. My phone is 727-800-5254.

If you use a V8 Roadsters frame, I don't think the pan has to be altered.
