Default Modifying k member for 5.0

Been reading about the modification of the Miata k member. Found a good thread about how it should kinda look like ( https://www.v8miata.net/ford-v8-disc...r-mounts-1477/ ).
I was wondering if this would be possible if I just leave the k member in the miata and modify it there? Would it be better to just remove it? I want to do it this way because so I can test fit the 302. Any help would be very appreciative.

You need to read this.... http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...=353302&page=2 - MX-5 Miata Forum

John did a great job and many of us exchanged ideas and experiences when he was building his car. Several posts related to axles on the cheap as well buried in the above.

In closing, yes it's far better to pull the Kmember, also to build a jig to hold it so no warpage.

Good Luck, Ron

I would suggest looking closely at the Ford DIY builds listed in this thread as well. https://www.v8miata.net/v8-miata-con...esources-2349/

I'm going to move this over to the Ford build section where a lot more guys will see it.

I started the https://www.v8miata.net/ford-v8-disc...r-mounts-1477/ thread back when I was in the OP shoes. I will be dropping my K member in a week or two to install a new pan. This will be an excellent opportunity to get good mesurements.
I get mad at people who start threads and do not update. I have become one of those people!

Awesome. You would come in clutch with those measurments! I ordered those patriot headers so just waiting on them to get here so I can resume modifying my k member.

If I did it again, I would have off set the motor a tad bit more to the passenger side. My steering linkage is 1/8 of an inch from my headers.

It should be noted that this picture is NOT the final product. I shortened the hight of the mounts since this picture was taken. The mesurements in the picture represent the final product. Also, i have a 5/8 inch thick plate attached to the block that the motor mount attaches to. I made a inch long slot in it to fine tune the distance of the motor to the fire wall.

Thanks a lot for these measuremeasurements! Any hood clearance with that height?

I had some clearance issues particularly around the throttle. I put a 1/4 inch spacer between the subframe and body and cut the hood reinforcements off. I could have made the stock hood work but I ended up making a cowl hood. The cowl was added for several reasons; better cooling, looks, and clearence.

I really don't want to cut up my hood except for the hood latches. I'm sure I'm going to have to, but I'll see what I will do.
