WTB - 99 engine and drivetrain

Interested in buying running '99 Miata 1.8L engine, trans....

tbone heller 07-14-2011 08:19 AM

It would help to know what type of engine & transmission.

Meierznutz 01-09-2012 02:21 PM

Not sure where you are or if you are stuck on a 99, but I have a complete engine/trans/accessories from a 95 if it helps. Wire harness from entire car without any cut wires and ECU also.

WTB 99 engine and trans

Need either a 99 or 2000 1.8l Miata engine and 5 speed manual transmission. Drivetrain and subframes are a plus.

Ok, why so specific? Not to be a nudge but the trans are all interchangeable and the engines swap over easily too.

randy 01-09-2012 05:24 PM

Although the swaps are easy, it's because I race a spec miata and the rules don't allow for engine swaps. I think the transmissions are the same for all the 1.8L's but the engines are different.

Thanks for the reply Randy. Makes sence to me now. How far gone is the motor you have now or did you buy a shell?

randy 01-09-2012 05:44 PM

Had a connecting rod come through the oil pan at the end of the season. Using my spare motor now. Usually go through a transmission or 2 each season. Pushing them pretty hard, so I try to keep stocked on spares.

Randy, I have a 99 w/5-speed that I'm planning to do an LS3 swap into.
I'll be selling the drivetrain, which currently has a MP62 blower on it.
The car has about 70K miles and runs very well.
It has Toyota COP's on it now but I have all the original ignition stuff as well.

I also have a spare 99 low-mileage motor. The car it came from had 80K but I have reason to believe that this motor was a replacement for one that had a thrust bearing failure. I suspect it actually has far fewer than 80K miles.
I also have a 6-speed with I believe around 50K miles on it.
Let me know if you're interested in any of this.

randy 04-12-2012 07:20 AM

I'd be interested in the motors and 5-speed transmission. Is it an open diff or Torsen?

Cobranut 04-13-2012 07:26 PM

Randy,
The original chunk has 4:30's on an open diff.
The one in the car now has 3:90's on an RX-7 clutch-type limited slip.
