wiring frustration 2003 nb miata - RHD - alternator wiring

wiring frustration 2003 nb miata - RHD - alternator wiring
ok so I know i am a sucker for punishment but this is really frustrating
I have 3 headaches on wiring - all help appreciated
the car is a 2003 NB RHD (getting a toyota v12 - so euro / jap / australian spec base car)
first problem is matching alternator wires to the toyota transplant alternator
the toyota alternator has 3 wires - fairly easy to find info on on the web - however my NB miata has 2 wires (obviously) the colours of which make no sense on any other thread i have seen - I sold the original alternator and its plug not that it would really help - so I need to mate them up - in my mind one of the toyota wires from the plug should loop to the big lug for battery positive and the other two to the miata oem harness ? however......
heres a pic of the NB Miata wires - if i switch the ign on with a good battery i get millivots on each of the 2 factory wires - i expected one to give batt + and the other ground via lamp but nope (unless i fried something.....)
and heres the toyota alternator (oval plug)
so how on earth do i do this on a NB ?
