Default Alternator and starter wires to far apart?

I hooked up my ford alternator plug ends to my miata harness just like martins instructions say to and all went well, but now I am looking at were the starter wire terminals end up. They are not down were the starter I will be. Next I thought OK I will just undo the insulation on the wiring harness and move them. but that will not work as the big red/black wires run both ways, up and down. Now I am starting to think that I need more length on the alternator plugs to allow the harness to Stay down and allow the starter wires to connect. Anyone else have this problem?

You are going to have to separate the harness somewhat to make it work. The starter and alternator are further apart on the 5.0 than they are on the Miata engine. I usually end up routing the alternator wire around the engine bay and then across to the alternator. The starter wire I run right back to the starter with the solenoid wire (if you use a PM starter).

I will have to add some significant length onto the alternator wire right?

You shouldn't have to. I've used G3 Alternators on the last 3 of my builds (no modifications to the alternator wire) but on the first one I did the plug swap to run a G2 like you're doing. I can't remember adding any length to it but I do remember completely separating it from the starter wire.

I route the oil pressure wire with it as well and the fan switch wiring when I used to trip the fans that way.

I removed the covering off of the wire bundle enough to see what you mean. I pulled out the alternator wires. When they are separated from the bundle, they are long enough to reach the alternator, while at the same time have the started terminals were they need to be. Thanks
