Default new guy trying to find answer

I've been searching fourms decided to join and ask. Trying to get my ducks in a row before I get everything. See lots of post with ls1 and 5.0 been reading a lot about ls motors and found out the 4.8 is a great motor for a turbo. Will the kit work with the 4.8? I've read the t-56 will mount to it. Wanting a rear mounted turbo system...got a buddy who give me his old 4.8 out of a 02 truck. Any info or point me in the right direction would be appreciated. The money for this project is burning a hole in my pocket...ready to get started

Yes sir, Rebel -- V8 Miata is what you'll want to make as your project car. I learned the most on the LS engines at LS1Tech.com under their hybrids and conversions forum. Awesome, awesome GM V8 builds posted there of every description with and without forced induction. I'm not a turbo guy so I didn't focus as much on the needs that you'll have to work on for this task, but plenty of good info there. Search button will be your friend. Just open the forum from the "last month" view and take it out to the "Beginning" and you'll uncover a lot of stuff in your searches. That T56 will mount to your GM engine (and lots of other engines) just select the right bellhousing and you're home free.

Good luck - keep us posted as you put your plant together.

Just to be clear the 4.8 you are talking about is the GM 4.8 vortech right?

Things that you will want to consider:

1) 4.8 truck manifold will not clear the hood, use LS1, 2, 3, 6 or 7 intake.
2) You will need custom headers/manifolds
3) Kits are not designed around the 4.8 truck accessories, believe that F-body accessories must be procured/installed
4) Oil pan on the 4.8 will not work. Corvette pan or aftermarket pan will be necessary

That's the stuff that I can think of right off the top of my head. Your turbo setup will likely require a fuel pump and injector upgrade.

In some states that require emission testing, the use of an engine that is donated from a truck is not allowed. It has to be from the same year or newer model CAR that it is going in. Be sure to check with the DMV in your state before you start, to get all of the particulars. It would suck to build something that they won't let you register.
