I used larger gauge wire to power my fans. Power is supplied via fusible link from the ford firewall mounted starter solenoid, to a relay. The relay is controlled by the temp switch in the thermostat housing or can be grounded by a dash-mounted toggle switch. I also installed a separate relay to control the fans when the a/c compressor is running. Both fans are wired in parallel. The only Mazda part that I used was the temperature activated fan switch.

There are a lot of ways to skin this cat,

I'm using one single 2-Speed fan, from any Volvo 940/960 or 850.
Grab it's respective relay, pigtails and power cable, with it's fuseable link

Relay get's constant 12v from the battery...fan connects to relay, and fan get's it's own ground.

There are two leads, to control fan speed, one for low and one for high. They need ground to trigger the fan. I wired one to a temp switch in my LOWER radiator hose and the high speed, to a switch on the dash.

Reliable, like Swedish Engineering, and simple.

I'm working on modifying the headlight relay bracket, to accept this.
