I've got a v8r mounting kit. T56 with an 8.8, fabricated a mount for the diff myself. Now I have an aluminum camaro driveshaft and a steel mustang driveshaft that has the rear 8.8 flange I need. Obviously the camaro shaft will need to be shortened and I need to use the rear flange from the other shaft to bolt up to the 8.8, but the u joints aren't the same style so will it be possible to shorten it and use the flange I already have or will I need to buy a new rear flange In addition to having the camaro shaft shortened

 

If it is an aluminum driveshaft that you are wanting, I would suggest that you acquire one from a Ford Aerostar van, have it shortened, and the yoke installed.

 

I sent my aluminum shaft from the camaro to an outfit in ND suggested by charchi(Jim). Less than 200 including shipping both ways and they shortened it and put the correct flanges/ujoints in it for me.

 

why an aerostar? I don't think I've seen one of those in a long time in the yards around here.

Because an Aerostar had an aluminum driveshaft & the correct pinion flange to fit a 7.5 or 8.8 differential. Also had the correct yoke to fit a T-5 or AOD. There were about 5 of them at the last yard I went to.

The Trans slip yoke is a spicer 50. The ford rear is also standard. Any driveshaft shop can make on for you. All you will need is the measurement to give them.

 

I had a camaro shaft shortened. I supplied the driveshaft, rear flange and yoke. Cost me $165 to have it shortened and new u joints parts and labor. Advance driveline in Orlando did it for me.

 

Overall I was pleased with their service and workmanship. Fit perfect with the measurements I provided them. Measured from the output shaft to the flange of the diff, didn't have to actually figure the actual measurement that needed to be removed from the shaft.
