Default Rear Axle Disassembly

Hi Guys,

I ordered these axles from Summit Racing, as they have the inner and outer CVs I need to do the swap.
A1 Cardone Remanufactured CV Drive Axles 60-2023 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing

I need to remove the inner and outer CVs from the axle shaft so that I can swap the axle shaft for the Monster Miata ones.

The inner joints pop right out, but the outers are not moving at all. I've taken them to the machine shop and they cannot get them to budge.

Anyone have any tips on how to make this happen?

This is the joint I'm referencing:

Thank you!

You'll need a pipe wide enough to fit the axle shaft and longer than the shaft. Stick the axles with the CV up into the pipe then slam the pipe against the floor of your garage. On new axles it make take some smashing but they will pop out.

I should have noted that. I got some 1.5" piping and smashed it against the floor as hard as I could for probably 30 minutes. It actually chipped up a piece of the concrete floor.

My new axles were a PITA as well. They'll go; just keep at it.

I had smashed mine so much without success (I watched Gabriel do it on his video - seemed simple enough) and gave up.

I wound up cutting the axle off right at the CV ring there, spun the ring around and pulled the nub out. Then disassembled, cleaned, assembled (again with the help of Gabriel's video) and greased along with installation of the Monster axle... both sides this way. PITA

The concrete isn't hard enough! I tried for a while on concrete and had zero success. I put a sheet of metal on the ground and only had to bang on it a couple of times before the half shaft came out.

I used my bench vise, opened wide enough for axle to be loose but catch the Cv. Slammed downward, each popped in 2-3 tries. Make sure you are ready to catch the cv if it falls.

Welp... I quit on them. I took them to an axle shop. For $10 he hit it with a BFH in a vice and popped them out.

Hopefully I can get it in later.
