No Wheel Hop.

I just wanted to share that I have no wheel hop. I am wondering if it is because I installed washers at this location(in the picture)? I am running an eaton true-track with 3.27 gears and 225/45-15 BF Goodrich g-force-rivals. My car just sticks and goes really well. Not trying to toot my own horn here, just wanted to share what I have because I read about people having trouble with wheel hop. I have none. I have not installed any aftermarket bushings.

Could be that you are not producing enough power to initiate wheel hop. LOL!! :yippee::yippee::yippee:

^ What I was thinking.

It could be lower power than the LS guys but I'd just be thankful you don't have the problem because it can be difficult to deal with.

No wheel hop here, either. Oddly enough, the only time I experience wheel hop is in wet conditions.

Here's an example of no wheel hop from a couple weeks ago :)

Does anyone have a comment about the use of washers in that location?

It's not really the use of washers, but setting the proper pinion angle by any means necessary that keeps your car from having any wheel hop. Of course a lack of power to the rear wheels could be the culprit as well :gay:

OK I don't get it. Why does everyone want to talk about the power of my car? I can get rubber in 3 gears? What do you want?

GoKart 06-03-2016 01:18 PM

Reverse doesn't count, Doug! :p

I wish I never started this thread. Just trying to be helpful and share. thanks everyone for the kick in the head.

It's "pick on Doug day". )
I had my turn already.

BTW, I get wheel hop in my stock 4cyl Miata so I don't think a lack of power is the issue. lol.

^Agreed. My 130 whp NB1 with 225 RS3's wheel hops like crazy.

Doug, thanks for the comments. Everyone is just joking with you :) That's the internet for ya!

Doug, at the time last year when I took the Miata to the drag strip, I did not have those braces on the rear assembly and the wheel hop was hideous. On the street it was never a problem as the tires just "fry" instead of trying to hook up.

The extra "sticky" on the drag strip I think induced the wheel hop along with the old poop tires that were on it. I have the braces on now and hoping that may help mine out but on the street, the problem is I fry the tires instead of moving forward while watching the other car next to me get ahead!

Pardon my ignorance , but what braces are you referring to ?

My experience with wheel hop seems to be it happens on the street when the wheel speed greatly surpasses the car speed. ie: if the car is going 10 and the wheels are doing 40 = wheel hop. If the car is doing 30 and wheels are doing 40= spinning tires, no hop.

Haven't gone to the strip yet.

There are braces that are bolted onto the rear suspension member at each of the lower A arm pivot points and go up to the frame/body.

My understanding of wheel hop is the tires grip for a split second, then slip for a split second, then grip for a split second, on and on...

No good deed goes unpunished. LOL

Back when I had this conversation years ago, I honestly did not know that LOL means "I am just joking". I didn't do much texting back then and this forum was my first foray onto forums. Spectacular fail due to not being able to get the joke.

Laugh Out Loud!

MX-Brad 03-10-2019 03:46 PM

Well there you go, I thought it was “lots of love”. lol

stng_96 03-12-2019 08:24 AM

Glad to see you accepted your lack of power after a few years....LOLOLOLOLOL

(Obligatory disclosure that this is also meant as a joke)
