Default New custom axle

To make a story short I make a set of custom axle for my new 8.8 ford diff.

What you need.

2x RX7 T2 Axle

2x Ford 7.5" axle (Shure Track in my case)

Both shaft are almost the same diameter and share the same boot.

Bring all to a machine shop and they cut, machine and weld my axle shaft. (You need a shop that know how to make it)

Finish result

Fit perfect with stock miata hub, no vibration and good for all my v8 power.

Big Thank to Vic Harder for the info!

Yes they make them turn up to 3000rpm... (they where machine so 100% straight) Thanks for info, i was afraid they don't hold the power... They where good for only 500 wheels HP.

Sorry (Not Sorry) to bump an old thread, But how is this holding up? I am looking into having this done locally as well. It seems like I can have this performed for less than half of what custom ales will cost me.. and a lot less headaches. Also, what were the lengths of your final axles?

they hold fine, no problem. I dyno 290hp and 310tq at the wheels. So not too much power on them.

For the lenght you must mesure your car.

I wonder if these would hold up to a 420 hp daily driver. I MIGHT be able to have these built for under $500 locally. So far every other option starts at around $1k.

Yea, I don't think that with the limited traction we can achieve on 245's there is much danger of snapping an axle.

I run BF G-force 255-45-16 with no problem. Don't think you have much trouble with 245.

Goodluck!

Curious why you ran 7.5 axles for the 8.8? Would the 8.8's not work on it? Wondering cuz i have an 8.8 that still has the half shafts and figured i could use those.

you can... but the diameter is bigger. 7.5 axles avec rx7 axles have the same diameter.

I just posted about this same axle dilema. So the 7.5 axles will fit no issue in the 8.8? I like this idea on what you did. Are those ABS ends? What did you use as a differential mount? Was it custom? Thanks

I thought T2 axles had a different spline than Miatas? Did you need different hubs too?

Ah okay, that makes sense. I'm in the process of piecing together T2 parts, so I called Martin earlier to sort out what I need. Just for reference, T2 axles need new hubs. Either a T2 hub machined down to fit Miata wheel bearings and redrilled for 4x100, or a Miata hub that's broached to fit RX7 splines.
