Remanufactured NA Power Steering Rack
$200 plus actual shipping cost for a 25 lb. carton from zip code 32003. (I sometimes can get a nice discount on UPS ground; just need your address for a quote).
A few months ago I ordered a complete, remanufactured power steering rack and pinion assembly for a car I ended up selling before installing the new rack. Never installed or used; it's still in the factory shipping box and packaging. I lifted it out of the box only to take photos.
It was specifically ordered as a 1996 - 1997 rack. I've read that all NA power racks bolt up the same, but there is some variation in the hydraulic connection fittings. So this should be a direct, drop-in install in a '96 - '97, but likely may need some fittings adapted etc. in earlier years. I actually selected this '96 - '97 rack for an earlier car because the factory made internal improvements in the later rack that gave it better steering feel (something people often complain about in the earlier, power steering equipped cars).
This rack was remanufactured in the USA by Detroit Axle. Info below is from their website:All of our Rack and Pinions are air leak tested to assure reliable performance, hydraulically tested for bypass/hi-pressure, road simulation tested, and have tie rod load checked. 100% new o-rings and lip seals to ensures no leaking and quality performance. All new Teflon rings are added to the spool valve on the rack donut, restoring internal sealing of the rack and pinion. Racks are surfaced to OE specifications, the proper surface finish will prevent leaking between chambers and extend unit life.
o New Oil and Lip Seals installed to ensure quality performance
o New Teflon rings installed on spoon valves to restore internal sealing of rack and pinion.
o Racks are finished with proper surface to prevent leaking and to prolong life.
o New Inner tie rods installed
o Hydraulically Tested to Ensure Internal By-Pass for Both High and Low Pressures
