What a terrible idea...
"Spend $20k+ on a 1990 Miata?! You are a selfish, idiotic.......!"
-My ex
Now that she's out of the way, I'm looking to dive into this head first.
I'm considering either a Monster Miata DIY build or buying a Miata that someone already completed.
Unfortunately my budget does not allow for commissioning Flyin Miata or Monster Miata to build a new car.
I've been lurking on this forum for a long time, reading other members' build threads and getting inspiration for those of you that are extremely motivated and talented. If anything, thanks to everyone here for posting all this information and allowing others to benefit from your collective hard work.
If anyone can recommend a built Miata, please let me know!
Thanks,
Mike

Since you are in California, your choices for a "legal" car might be limited. I would suggest talking to Martin at Monster Miata to find out what you are up against as far as getting one of these cars registered. I know that in my county (in Georgia) the car only has to pass a visual inspection to determine if it has a catalyst in place, a gas cap vacuum test, & a tailpipe emissions test in order to get a tag. These tests are required yearly until the vehicle reaches 25 years old. Good luck in your search!

Welcome to the forum
I sadly cannot help you with advice about california regulation. Here in southern illinois, we don't have any kind of inspection so I had a very easy time putting my car together and as far as any governing body is concerned, I have 99 4cyl miata.
