If you don't have the time, try and buy one that's already been built. With the economy the way it is now, you might find a good deal on one.

Any project this involved can't be done on a shoestring budget (I know I'll get flamed for that but it's true). I have been working on my car for nearly 3 years now and I am sure that if I had all the cash, parts, and time together at once I could have done it in under a month. That said I have been doing things as my cash flow allows. I buy cars, fix them up, sell 'em and use the money to buy the next car and make progress on the swap. This way I don't use house money to fund my addictions (Speed and Horse Power). I am into my swap for near ten grand real money out of pocket (not counting parts I have traded, bought, or sold off). I need an exhaust, PCM flash and fuel lines to finish from here. I wouldn't trade my car for a completed swap because of the way I built this one. I have every BF componant in her, I made the rear end mount, planed and built the accy drives and the car was my first Miata. Plus it was the first time my Dad ever gave me a compliment on a project; "You finally built a whole car, brakes, safety, chassis not just anothe rbig motor in a little car". I can't buy that....

There are a couple of very good deals out there right now for built cars, one is on this forum. When the economy was a little sweeter built V8's were going for a lot more.
