Hi all, I am new to this forum. I have a 1990 Mustang 302 EFI with a T5 manual transmission. The engine is the only thing left to remove. I was considering a FF Cobra kit but a friend of mine told me to look up Miata conversions and it's a perfect choice. Less work, same fun driving and you get some creature comforts at the same time (like a roof). Oh and probably less cost and last but not least less difficulty dealing with the Canadian paper pushers at registration and insurance time. I was fortunate to get a FF Cobra manual before I spent any real money on the project to help me decide which way to go with all the options. Sounds like a big brake kit and a roll bar are a must have on the Miata. I plan on squeezing 300 hp out of the engine which will be easy. Does anyone know where I can get a Miata conversion manual online to see what else is involved? I need to know which Mustang parts to save and what else I need to find other than a rear end and axles. I will buy a kit but don't know where yet. I have a thousand other questions about how much welding is required and which is the best Miata to convert, AC, wheels and tires etc. Stacey David on Gearz TV made it look too easy. Cheers.

Thanks tbone. I talked to Martin and it sounds easy from his perspective and real interesting from my perspective. It would be great to find a conversion manual so I knew exactly what I was looking at, parts I need etc. I emailed Jason from McCully racing motors too. I don't have any problem with buying a kit and moving forward right away, just trying not to do something stupid without doing the research. I figure that the conversion manual will make that easier. If I can't find an online manual, I will buy one, just don't know which one! I take it that Martin is good to work with. Jason seems to be available on this site too. The 1990-1993 Miata is the easy part, they are cheap and many. Up north where we use salt is a factor if winter driven.

I did get your email but have not had a chance to get back to you. It looks like you discovered that I don't sell conversion kits, Martin at Monster Miata does. What I sell is a converted Plug-n-play Mustang wire harness that drops right in and separate manual to guide you through that part of the process. I also sell conversion AC hoses should you want to retain AC. I also sell aluminum driveshafts for the cars.

Jason thanks! I don't have the talent or patience to do it without a kit to help. I will be doing this with my teenaged son and if my daughter wants to help, that works too. Sounds like wiring is a problem for some people, I am not sure if I want AC or not yet. Appreciate the welcome to the forum and support of my project. My 302 is a HO EFI and I would like to clean it up a little and dress it up too. When I get it out and take the oil pan off I will know just how much work is involved based on wear. I just hope it doesn't need a rebuild, crate engines are more reasonable than they were in the past.

I have been reading so much, my eyes are sore! Pulled the old Mustang shell out of the garage and sold it to a good home in July. Pulled the trigger on a 2000 Miata and picked it up today. Got a T-Bird rear end and half shafts ordered this afternoon and ready for pick up next week. Give me two weeks and then let it snow!!!

Mitch, When it comes to the wiring be sure to have Jason build you a harness. He makes it so simple and you wont be disapointed.

Mitch, Have another conversation with Martin. He has a manual and wiring guide for the Miata. Jason's harness will possibly be easier and much cleaner looking. Martin's wiring guide was $75. Also, there are so many kits built by Martin out there that you will be able to get advice from many builders. Good luck

Thanks guys! I purchased a manual from Martin and have communicated with Jason and Martin by email. Found them both to be professional, both have offered help/advice and I will use them both for my project.

Does anyone know where I can find a 2000 Miata wiring part? I need a front turn signal wiring connector. (pig tail) I already have the bulb holder. I am going to make something work until I can find it! The Parts Group doesn't ship to Canada. I tried other 2000 model mazdas in wrecking yards but they wont fit.
