Hi All,

I have a '91 and am currently working on fixing a few of the rusted body areas. I have been researching the idea of swapping in a V8. I'm old school and really like carburated motors for their simplicity (no ECM, sensors, other). Would swapping in a carburated motor be a little easier? Thanks guys.

Take a look at the build threads in this site as there are quite a few "old school" builds.
A couple utilize solid rear axles for a drag race focus while others keep the independent rear suspension.

If you are asking about the EASIEST path to putting a V8 drivetrain into a Miata, the answer is to spend money and purchase an installation kit from Flyin Miata or V8 Roadster or Monster Miata and follow their instructions.
The reason being is that if you follow that path all of the little installation problems are already figured out for you and the installation path is pretty straight forward and give you a good usable car as the end product.

If you want to do as much fabrication for yourself as possible and build the cheapest V8 Miata swap you should read over the various build threads that are done in that manner and decide if your personal fabrication skill level is up to that sort of thing.

The final recommendation I would make is for you to check out YouTube and the various Miata swap videos that show up there.
A couple of the good channels to check out would be
