Default New to V8's....not to miatas

Hey guys. Some of you may recognize my screen name if you can put up with the nonsense on Clubroadster. Been on miataturbo for half a decade also although I do mostly reading there.

I have a 2004 Mazdaspeed that I'm turning into a track rat and decided I want to use a v8 instead of building the engine and buying a new turbo kit for it. I am dropping off the car next month to get the front end tubed and a miatacage welded in. Then I will start my purchase of v8 parts. Decided to go LS6.

I'll be getting back quite a few bucks from taxes, selling my NA, parting out my mazdaspeed, and have a few paychecks under my belt, so I shouldn't have too tight of a budget and will probably just go whatever the easiest route. I probably won't post too much at first since I need to do quite a bit of reading during this month before I start purchasing parts, and hope to gain a bit of knowledge on this site.

Btw: What's up with the avatar option? Only choice I get is to not have an avatar. Is it for supporting members only or do I need to be on here a certain amount of time?

Welcome.

Ls6 will be pretty cool. The full cage will help. It sounds like you've got all your ducks in a row which is the right way to jump into something like this. If you can start a build thread so we can see the progress.

Welcome. New here as we'll. Used to lurk at CR.net a LOT - but that had become too tedious in last few yrs. Please, plz post pics and comments of your V8 journey. Your LS6, full cage MS sounds like an ultimate track toy to me!

It would be great to see this site with more build threads and therefore, attract more folks and useful discussion.

Recently ordered my V8R kit and 80% of the related goodies. CANNOT wait to get started. Looking LS2 pullout right now...

Thanks guys. I'll start my build thread maybe end of March or beginning of April once I've gotten a pretty good headstart. I'm being sidetracked right now building my daily driver.

I was hoping to see a lot more activity on this forum, but this has to be one of the slowest forums ever. haha Maybe because not enough people have the money to be doing this swap.

So whats up with the avatar thing. It won't let me choose an avatar. Doesn't even give me the option.

Low activity could be because there is probably only a few hundred V8 Miatas in the world or because once guys have them built they don't hang out much here. Or both. It's not super active like LS1tech.com but still lots of good info and experience here.

I love the photo art you have up there!!

I too am a bit frustrated by the limits to what you can do on the forum. This is the only forum I have ever seen that you can't edit a prior post and to me that is an unnecessary restriction. But over all I feel it is an excellent forum that is very well run. Spam is taken care of quickly and just about everyone plays nice.

Try hanging out on M.net. Its even more locked down. We are slower because of the lack of build threads and lack of people putting big engines into these little cars. CR and MT are very active because the initial investment to slam and boost a car is about a 1/10th the price of a V8 swap. With time, hopefully it'll grow (I've said that a time or two...).

I find this general discussion to be encouraging. Just knowing that there is interest and some knowledgeable eyes reading this thread is enough to sway me to put my build thread on here. I originally poted my intro in Oct 12 but got no feedback. I thought there was no interest and have only been randomly lurking here ever since.

Well guys, I just came across a deal on an engine/tranny. Somewhat built LS1 with 404whp/414lbs tq and T56 trans for $2500. Just need to figure out best way to freight ship it, and then find what differential would be best for my needs. Slowly coming together

A good deal, indeed, perhaps. Please post pics when you get it home. More build threads needed here
