Default Monster in BC

I am starting to collect parts for a miata build. So far i have an 2000 lr4. Next I am looking for a transmission. It looks like T56s are particularly rare and spendy. It looks like only T56s from specific cars and years will work with the ls style V8R swap. is this an engine or kit fitment issue?

F body t56 are best due to the shifter location. All the others would put the shifter in the incorrect location and would need to spend more money to convert to an f body tailhousing or modify the body of the car and console to accommodate the new shifter location.

BC is pretty good. The US dollar's a bit pricey right now and shipping across the boarder is painfully expensive. I did find a transmission in Canada that should do the job. It's a corvette transmissioin that has been modified to fit an f-body camaro.

Which rear end are you going to use?

I am planning on the Getrag diff. because it sounds like easier exhaust. I am leaning toward tall gears. This is a daily driver. Suggestions?

No experience but I found this Differential Showdown: Getrag vs. Ford 8.8 - MX-5 Miata Forum

Mine has a turbo ii rx7 with the T5 trans. 4.1 final drive is retarded! 5th gear 3000 rpm is about 55mph (100kph). I think top speed is 90 lol.

They had the exhaust run over top the axles.

I've finally got a line on a T56. the guy i'm buying it from is putting a bellhousing and fbody shifter on it. He says it's from a 2000 corvette. Once it shows up i will see what it is and start looking for a differential. My engine is torn apart and in the machine shop.

I'm still lurking and reading lots, not planning to start ripping my miata apart until next summer.

As far as i can tell there are really only two choices for oil pans for LS engines, the V8R and FM ones. they are pretty close in price, is there any reason to choose one over the other? Are there any others?

I've heard that there's an LSx Swap Pan made by Mast that works, but it seems to have factory F body baffling.. which isn't so good. There's a multi-page thread around here that goes over a bunch of different trials and errors. All have some kind of downside, such as starter clearance, steering rack clearance, etc. This is why both FM and V8r make their own, instead of buying one. I've seen that the V8r pan has some quality control issues, which is why I went with the Moroso manufactured FM pan. Unfortunately the FM pan doesn't have the oil port adapter on the side of the pan, so if you want an oil cooler you have to get the remote filter mount.
