Hi
My name is Mike, and I am from new orleans.
Just purchased a 90' Miata with the intention
of doing a V8 swap sometime next year.
I was thinking of using the Aluminum block
GM 5.3 engine. From what I have seen these
engines can be picked up for a song, less than
$1k. They are rated at 300hp and all the LS stuff
swaps. Anyone used this engine?
Has anyone used the Painless wiring kit for the swap?
I am sure to come up with a couple million more ?'s
Thanks, Mike

There's an owner at the miata.net engine conversion forum using the L33. modracer33.
There's really no benefit to using a Painless wiring harness as opposed to have an ebayer or someone from LS1tech doing it for you for cheaper if you can't do it yourself. The engine side of the harness isn't as much of an issue for the swap as the in car side and splicing it into the Miata wiring. It also depends if you want to mount the PCM/ECU in the car or in the engine bay. Mine is mounted in the pax footwell (like early NA) in my '01 under a false floor. I still had to lengthen some wiring over to the Miata fuse box, fuel pump relay, and trans harness.
