Hello everyone! From reading posts on the forum I seem to be the old school guys worst nightmare; been a member for six years and only one post 
. I have a red 1993 miata I bought back in 2007 and drove for years as a weekend car. I finally caved and took her off the road eight (8) years ago to start the LS conversion. This is an e-x-t-e-n-d-e-d conversion based on my available time and more importantly, my pocketbook. So far I have a complete V8 roadsters kit front to rear, a 5.3 from a 2004 Buick Rainier (scored from LKQ for $580), T56 from 1998 Camaro and many of the small needed parts to complete the conversion. Still need a CTS-V accessory drive system, exhaust and I need to figure out which ridiculously expensive oil pan route I want to venture down. I keep thinking that if I hold out long enough someone, somewhere will come up with a low-cost oil pan alternative. Just got the trans three weeks ago so this winter I will finally start removing the existing drive line and getting the new components in place.
Some back history on me, I mispent my late teens and twenties living in Southern California back in the late 70's to mid 80's. I was an ASE certified mechanic and worked at Quaid Imports in Riverside CA. Myself and my friends also dabbled in drag racing, we ran a couple of cars in NHRA sportsman and Comp Eliminator class back when there actually were real drag strips in Southern California, we raced a Class 5-1600 Baja Bug in Score and HDRA events around the southwest and Mexico and I raced motocross at the now defunct Corona Speedway and rode the Barstow to Vegas race 5 times. After all this fun I settled down, got my engineering degrees and over the last 26 years have worked for John Deere, Camoplast, Husqvarna and most recently Kohler.
Now that I am actually starting on the physical work of this transformation and not still in "parts gathering mode" I hope to have a bigger presence on the forum.
