99 Miata turbo going V8
Ok so I go by Mach5 on miataturbo.net I have been on there for a while now. I have a 99 miata with build motor FM Hydra II turbo set up and making about 260 to the wheels. I wanted to go over 300 and realized I would have to switch over to E-85 and I believe the motor would start to get shaky at best at 400-450. So I have decided to sell the whole lot and go V8 instead. Due to budget restrictions I believe I will go 302 at this time but I am up for suggestions. I just would like to get 300-400 out of a 302 with moderate build. Maybe eventually supercharge it. Well glad to be on here. And open to any suggestions. Thanks guys.

Horsepower wise you're not to far off from now from where you'll be with a built 5.0. I have a 331 stroker with GT-40 intake and heads and am only making 270 rwhp (about 350 crank). That said, I also have 311 foot pounds of torque to the rear wheels which is impossible to achieve with a boosted Miata engine.
With a 331 crank, aluminum heads, GT-40 intake, some kind of cam and the electronics to support it you'l make over 300. With a supercharger no problem.
Note also, my numbers come via a Mustang Dyno. Tose with high numbers tend to use the "other" dyno.
Good luck, feel free to email me with any questions,

my last numbers where on mustang all wheel dyno I am familiar with the power diffrence at this state I feel my motor only has so long before it breaks again. I will not have to worry about that with the 5.0 will run all day.
So I was looking at 331 stroker kits. So the 331 crank is that just, a 331 stroker crank with stock rods and pistons with no bore? And your GT-40 intake is that a GT-40p out of a explorer or bronco? Looking for cheap power so whats the best way to get 300hp on a budget of around 1k or so. I am open for recommendations. Have been reading my but off on several forums as of late.
302s are cheap. Parts are cheap. Seen 306's lay down 1100 HP easy (r block though).
