Default Project Animal- LS3 2002 build

Hi Guys lm starting my second V8 build and Im going to post some pics as I go along. First off why Animal? Well my wife called my first build the Beast and Im planning for this build to be just as powerful but more refined so Im calling it Animal

Here’s what Im starting with. It’s a 2002 base that is in realy good shape with a new paint job. Im not much of a typist so I’ll post mostly pic.

I’m going top end this time. LS3/525 like you. I do have a question, how is the idling on your LS3? I’m concerned the big cam in the 525 might have ruff idle that would be uncomfortable for daily driving.

Not sure yet on the idle. The car has had a Hotcam in it (376/480) until this winter, I just upgraded to the ASA cam. I'm not as worried about the idle as potential surging at light throttle and low load (pretty much all the time in street driving a V8 Miata in any kind of traffic). Flyin' Miata builds a lot of these with this engine, so I'm not too worried. I'm sure it can be tuned out by a competent tuner.

I kind of *want* a nasty idle. :-)

I used frog arms on my last build. I like these better

For one thing, you don't have to paint over that hideous lime green. :-)

Great start.
Hopefully things will go nice and smooth the second time round.
Are you figuring on sticking with a T56 and 8.8?

What washer bottle is that?
Definitely not the plastic piece that comes in the Flyin Miata kit.

One question on your build.
Was there any specific reason for going with a 2002 or was it simply because that was an available NB?

The washer bottle comes from england. You can order it at,

Nothing special about the 2002 I found it locally and it had a fresh paint job
