Our first 2016 build!
This is going to be a bit of a slow motion build as we're forging new ground here, but we're working on the first ND V8.
There's a FAQ here: https://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/ND.php
We started nearly a year ago with some rough silhouette layouts to see if it looked plausible, and it did. We didn't have much else to work with at the time! Last week, when we had the four cylinder out for a 3D scan, we decided to drop in a test block and bellhousing.
You can probably imagine the excitement when it slipped in there!
In fact, it looks as if overall fitment is better than any other Miata. Not a thing was cut or modified to get the engine in there and ground clearance is not affected. We will have to make some changes to accommodate the accessories, but nothing we don't already do to the NC.
The steering rack is close, as is traditional in a Miata swap. But it looks like we'll have clearance. The electric assist motors are a no-go, so we'll probably convert to hydraulic steering as part of the swap. This was expected.
The next step is to scan the engine bay so we can do some CAD work on the swap. We're going to do this both digitally and via old-school techniques. We'll be scanning individual parts as well, such as the subframe to get hard points.

Great news and early congrats on the start of something great. If I hit big on the $1.5B lottery tonite, I guarantee it will be done in time for the Mitty!
Update Edit: One day later (and to no one's surprise) I did not win PowerBall and have not ordered ND LS3 Job1, unfortunately...
