mine is going to be a lot more "budget build" than your then lol

SupaDupaSteve 02-15-2015 07:37 PM

Yeah, I abandoned the budget a while ago. LOL

mazdaspeedmiata 02-28-2015 09:48 PM

boy oh boy
now i totally understand where your ''plan changed'' and "no longer budget" came from

i just picked up a 6.0 block, it failed the magnet test when i got it home

Got the dash and all the HVAC stuff pulled out today. Need to pull the rest of the interior and then I'll do some seam welding, weld in the reinforcement plates in the bay, and mock up frame rails to drill holes for the bolts and I'll tac weld the bolts in so I can remove and install the rails with one person. also traded my aftermarket F-body ls1 dampener for a stock Vette one.

mazdaspeedmiata 03-08-2015 10:58 PM

i got myself a stock vette damper / balancer too.
but the failing rate of the stock one on the corvette forum vs the f-body one seemed higher i dont know why ...
i am thinking to get a powerbond or ATI if i can ever find one on the cheap

Progress looks good. Try to stay to a budget though or expenses get high real quick! I have a funnel in the bottom of one of my accounts at the local CU... I had them name it "Car Account" so that money in/out didn't confuse the wife when she was looking at it on line. Kind of hard to keep her from doing simple math to see what's being spent though.
Word of warning... be sure to adjust the throttle throw to give true WOT. There is a stop at the pedal mount under the dash ad different ways to run the cable to take p slack.

SupaDupaSteve 03-11-2015 10:37 PM

well, I've only got so much income to spend on it. And I'd prefer it get done sooner than later so in a way there is a budget. But at this point, if I feel I should do something, but it will take an extra month... well, in the long run it will be worth it. I really am hoping to build the drivetrain for this car one time. Other stuff can be ironed out later.

I've got a spare LM7 that I'm going to use for mock up purposes until my L33 is finished. Progress on it is going slower than I'd anticipated.

About to pull the trigger on the V8R long tubes. Any opinions/objections?

:appl: ..on my list of too do's. Can't wait for the review.

SupaDupaSteve 03-12-2015 08:55 PM

well, the deed is done. It's hard to pony up $1200 for a set of headers when I could buy any other set of long tubes for almost half that. lol oh well, I didn't want 1.5" primaries and then regret them later and end up buying these anyways after buying the shorties.

Soon enough I will have to order a set....
Let us know how long it takes to arrive

SupaDupaSteve 03-12-2015 09:22 PM

Will do, hopefully not too long. I wanted to order them before they decide to stop making them or something like that. that would be my luck lol

GoKart 03-13-2015 12:48 PM

You guys will absolutely love the long tubes.

While mine are 1-7/8" instead of V8R's 1-3/4", they are identical in design. The car is a beast with the long tubes and the sound at WOT is intoxicating. You guys won't be disappointed in the performance.

Here's a shot of mine next to the puny 1.5" Sandersons for reference.

^^Those are bad ass!

charchri4 03-13-2015 01:33 PM

LOL you really need to change the title of the thread! I wish I could swap mine too but it's pretty far down the list.

GoKart that shot is amazing. Really nice work there!

Long Tube Header Build - MX-5 Miata Forum

GoKart 03-13-2015 03:52 PM

About $2,000 and months of work ;) I finished these a few months before V8R announced their headers. FM was all set to duplicate them but when V8R came out with theirs, FM opted not to do it. Can't say I blame there with such a small market.

Here's the cliff notes for the Header Build Thread if you're interested:

Gator Bait 03-13-2015 03:57 PM

ahh...ok...I remember that. It's hard keeping who did what straight. ..I am just a simple coonass after all... ;)

edit...love that off throttle crackle!

First impressions- Wow these are nice! Really quality pieces. We will see how fitment is when I mock everything up.

I also got my new engine harness today so I started tearing into the factory Miata one to eliminate all the unnecessary stuff. How has everyone else done this part? I'd prefer to keep everything as neat as possible without tearing into the dash stuff too much, but still eliminating pretty much anything I won't need.

mazdaspeedmiata 03-15-2015 12:50 AM

damn thats literally 2 days shipping
where u order that harness from again ?

SupaDupaSteve 03-15-2015 03:06 PM

So tearing into my harness today, I think I made a mistake. The sending unit that I need to put into the LS head is the small one with one spade terminal correct? I kept the one that sends the signal to the ecu. ASKJFHGSADJFGKHJAGSfuck.

Dave Tibbitts 03-15-2015 03:50 PM

Correct. The single spade terminal sensor at the rear of the OE head is for the gauge. The good news is they're cheap.

SupaDupaSteve 03-15-2015 04:07 PM

Yep, I'm not worried about the actual sensor. What frustrates me is that I cut the wire that went to the sensor so I'll have to run a new one to the connector on the passenger side of the dash.

ToySnakePMC 03-16-2015 04:18 PM

SDSteve - I'm enjoying your build thread and wish I was in the middle of another one myself right now!!

For Mazda wiring diet on my '94, I think you can see what I did to eliminate unnecessary Mazda wires and such starting, perhaps, on this page 5 of my build thread. It started out as the scariest part of my build, but after I dug in and read through the Miata wiring diagrams and took it apart wire-by-wire, it was a lot of fun actually! I think the only mistake on wiring was I somehow eliminated the hot wire for the radio. Had to later tie into another constant HOT wire for power... On the engine side, my 2005 GTO's PCM had Can-BUS logic so all my gauges (except for fuel tank sender) pulled their data from one wire going to the GM computer. That eliminated the need for add'l senders and wiring from engine to dash.

Keep the updates coming. And your longtube headers are to die for. Can't imagine how they'll sound, but I know it'll be somewhat challenging getting them stuffed in that engine bay! Fun stuff.
