Default 2002 Miata with 2000 LS1 and T56

Started my marathon in November 2014. Should finish by the end of the month. I've gotten a lot of information from all of you on the site. Just wanted to share some current photos of my build.

Let me get it on the road and then I'll sit down and put together more detailed build information and post to the forum.

I may have put 100 miles on the car and now my ebay transmission is having problems shifting in and out of 3rd and 4th gear. I pulled transmission this past weekend and shipped it to Tick performance for a rebuild.

Same thing happened to me.
Bought a salvage T56 and it worked for a couple of months before the 4th gear syncro went out.
What does it cost to have a rebuild at Tick Performance?
I used Texas Drive Train Performance and it cost $1500 to rebuild and upgrade to Viper specs.
Pretty neat cause I got to spend 5 or 6 hours watching him actually do the rebuild.

Rebuild is on sale now with $200 off. Normally $1599 but I paid $1399 which includes shipping both ways

Tick was really backed up on transmission rebuilds. Just got it back today. It's in the car and I'm in the process of getting the driveshaft, exhaust, console, etc. done. Should be able to drive it tomorrow. Transmission should have been a boat anchor. Tick said it had been driven hard. My cases were good but not much else.

Wanted to thank Martin Wilson at Monster Miata. I used the following parts from him for my build:
  • K-member and motor mounts
  • Transmission Mount
  • Axles
  • Hubs
  • 8.8 weld in differential mount
  • clutch master cylinder
  • Sway bar mounts
  • Oil pan
  • Fans
Everyone notice the name of the street in the background of the attached photo. The car has been named 'Tweety'

Keith

Another thread reminded me that I do have a question for you.
It is my understanding that Martin's front subframe locates the engine further forward than the V8 Roadster subframe.
Was it far enough forward for you that the tunnel did not need to be cut and re-welded?

I didn't do any cutting or welding on the tunnel. I did have to use a big hammer to clearance it some, but it wasn't drastic. However, I cannot remove bell housing with engine in the car. If you want to be able to replace the clutch without removing the engine then more work to the tunnel would have to be done.

Something else I have been meaning to ask.
What roll bars are you running?

The don't look to be Hard Dog Deuces but I think they look better with the extra width.

It's a Boss Frog. I liked the way they looked, but when I went to buy one Boss Frog was out of business. I found mine used on craigslist and then had it powder coated silver.

My ebay motor hasn't ever run right since I put it in the car. My son has HP tuners software, so we downloaded the tune. Turns out that the previous owner had it tuned for open loop. I got it re-tuned last week. I cannot believe how well the car is running now. It's so much fun to drive now and performs like I thought it should have from the start. I haven't had it on the dyno yet.
