Tremec T56 Magnum shifter location question

I'm waiting on my T56 Magnum to arive and from what I've been able to find on the internet the Magnum shifter is 3 inches forward compared to the F-body T56. Does anyone know if it will work without using an offset shifter.

Thanks

I was told by Flyin Miata that it would not. They have Magnums converted by Rockland Standard Gear to 4th gen F body length with a different tail housing and tail shaft. I have a brand new Magnum sitting here that I can't use unless you find out differently.

+1 to Jeffs find. When I did the research the only solution was the F body tail too. Toms Turbo Garage talks about the differences a little as I recall and he had something kind of custom done but I didn't pay that much attention to it so don't remember what he did. I know the F body comes up perfectly centered in the shifter hole.

OK I guess my next question is will the T56 Magnum work with an offset shifter

Well all the T5 guys do it but I've never seen how much difference there is in the magnum to T5 set up. I know Pat had to do something to his GTO to make it work. Do you know if the GTO and Magnum offset is the same? https://www.v8miata.net/general-moto...age2/#post5380

Are you making your own trans cross member so you can tweak it?

In other words I got nothing...

I can modify the cross member no problem and I did some reading over at LS1Tech.com about the guys that are putting the magnum in F-body cars so I think I can make it work. Maybe I'll do a How-to post to help out the next guy.

If you order the driveline kit from V8Roadsters you will probably have to change the slip yoke to a 31 spline to match the magnum's output shaft.

My only hesitation was whether there was enough room at the top of the tunnel for any part of the shifter that does not fall in the hole.

This should illustrate magnum shifter location vs stock T56 shifter hole.
