Ford Mazda electronics question please help
These V8 converted Miatas are new to me. Since there is a marriage of two electrical systems how much of the original Miata's features are retained? For example, in the process of troubleshooting my ignition problem, I noticed that the wire from the brake master cylinder reservoir was not connected. It does not even appear that there is a place to connect it to. Not that this is a problem, none of my other vintage cars even have that feature, but I was just wondering how much of the Miata's stuff still functions. Does the CEL still work with the Ford computer? How does one pull the codes? Now that it is running the engine is idling at 1500 rpm. Was it set that high for a reason or is there an idle air bypass problem? There is a connector next to the clutch master cylinder but I am pretty much on my own. Do I use the Ford troubleshooting guides? The car is a 1990 and the engine is a modestly hot rodded 5.0. It was built using Martin's kit and instructions. Do you folks find any consistency between builds or is everyone more or less on their own? A lot of questions I realize but I'm kind of flying blind. Thank you in advance.-Brad

Martins build manual is a valuable resource. If you didn't get it, you should contact him and get one. It can be bought separately for $50.00. This forum and the one at Miata.net dealing with conversions are also invaluable. The Ford conversion obviously predates the LS, so searching some of the old builds might answer some of your questions.
