I've been watching BAT for about a year and was committed to getting ToySnakes beautiful build in NC recently (perfect build for me). But I quickly hit the roadblock of CA emissions. Talking with a CA Referee I learned that to bring a non-CA LS v8 up to CA standards would be roughly the equivalent of doing another swap. I just haven't seen any v8 Miatas that are CA street legal come available in the past year (vs. track cars). Before I make a deal with my local smog shop I'd like to fully understand my options. Does anyone know where can I find a *CA street legal* v8 Miata - are they just extremely rare?

 

You might want to go thru the builds and look for cars that are based in California.
I do remember a couple but the posts mentioned huge hoops that have to be jumped thru to make it happen because California is possibly the least friendly swap state.
Made me glad to be living in Oklahoma when doing my swap.

Just do a quick look at each of the build threads looking for information about the car being built or utilized in California.
If the build is being done by a person in Texas or Oklahoma or Florida it will not be what you are looking for.
Move on to the next build thread and try again.
