So what do YOU think is a reasonable price?

Look at some past posts... for example,

https://www.v8miata.net/cars-sale-4/1993-mazda-miata-built-v8-493/

Your car is awesome, and if it wasn't so far away from Toronto, I'd be interested.
I don't know if you'll get over 20k for it, even then it will most likely be hard.

I could drive it out, or you could fly out and look at it. I have bought more than one car sight unseen. Make me an offer.

What's the estimated (or measured) hp Vic?

315HP 303 Torque, according to this dyno plot from a Mustang Dyno at 3500'. This was with the 347, but before the rebuild, which upped the compression and added the solid roller cam, and before the MegaSquirt. I estimate we added at least 50/50 HP/Tq.

I am in the midst of tuning the car using an EGT setup, and after that will take it back to the dyno. Hoping to see 400 RWHP or more.

Kamgator 05-25-2012 01:06 AM

Keep us up to date on your tuning efforts, interested to see how that turns out.

b1m2x3 06-03-2012 10:12 AM

Wonder how hard it would be to get this past inspection in Toronto... weld some cats on and cross fingers?

What are the pollution control requirements? Cats are easy to add. Often not necessary if they are just doing a tailpipe sniff. With the Megasquirt, you can tune it for whatever it takes to pass, and then retune for power/economy as you desire.

Vic Harder 06-06-2012 01:07 PM

Shouldn't be an issue based on this thread:

Vic Harder 06-09-2012 12:01 PM

So what price would it take to get people interested?

jwmezzanotte 06-10-2012 02:13 PM

I payed $17k for mine a couple years ago, in BC. Well used 302, looks to be pretty much stock. Old rusty exhaust, pretty sloppy suspension, little bit of rust on the rockers. In decent shape overall.
Bishop in vancouver was asking $21k (If i recall correctly) for a basic ford conversion when I was looking. I missed out on the one they had for sale though, but their website showed that they had sold a couple of them at least. I seem to recall a few others around that price range at the time.
So it seems that in BC a pretty much "stock" ford conversion goes for somewhere around $17-$20k assuming that they sold for around what they were asking.
Those cars don't really compare to yours though..
Dont know if that helps at all.

Vic Harder 06-10-2012 03:17 PM

That does help put it in perspective. The other way to look at it is the car is low mileage, plus you would have to pay FM $30K to do the conversion.

That said, times are tough.

I do want to sell it this year. The weather has been just terrible, so I have only had it out a few times so far. As I dial in the tune with the MegaSquirt it just gets faster and better all the time. Plus the fuel economy is getting better.. as if that matters!

I thought things were booming in Calgary? Maybe that was a few years ago?

Your telling me.. (actually had a few good days the last week or so)
I don't even think I'm gonna bother taking mine out of storage this year. Just in protest to the weather last year. I had time to drive it, it was insured, running good.... drove it maybe a handful of times.
Rain... Rain... Rain...
Frustrating.

Good luck with the sale

Kamgator 06-10-2012 10:13 PM

Vic, I will be back in Calgary in two weeks. Was there last week flying home from Denver but didn't have enough time between flights to try and get together. If your car is still available I would like to come look at it. You don't have front anti-sway bar correct?

June 23-24 I riding on the RIDE to Conquer Cancer. Other than that, I can be available most anytime. email me at mx5@shaw.ca for contact info.

I do have a front sway, from a '64 Ford Galaxy no less. Nice, because it goes around the harmonic balancer without having to use long stools for the mounts. I don't have it installed though, because based on track testing I was no faster with it on that without. And the tires rubbed at extreme wheel lock (function of the 225/50-15's I have on the car. Next tires will be 225-45/15 and should not have that issue).

Thanks. Booming is relative. House prices are much lower than they were 3 years ago, and folks are very very cautious. Oil prices are low (inflation adjusted) and Natural Gas is stupid low. It costs more to get the stuff out of the ground than we are getting for it. Not sustainable. So there is a lot of fear that a major collapse could happen any time.

Rained all weekend again... You would think we lived on the wet coast.. https://www.v8miata.net/v8m/images/icons/icon9.gif

amaharaj 06-22-2012 05:46 PM

I'd say that it has to be at 20k or lower to garner interest. I know that you have a lot more time and money into it but unfortunately when we have custom cars we usually don't get every dollar out if them unless the are classics. This isn't always true though, someone could come across a rolling chassis for $500, find a complete engine and tranny for $1000 and have less than 10k in the build. It just all depends but I'd suggest looking at the prices others are listed for. Good luck!

Well, I sold my OTM yesterday, and am now turning the V8 Miata into my DD (after I get the insurance squared away). That said, I am more keen than ever to sell it and get into something I would be willing to drive year round.

Make me an offer folks.... my biggest concern is that get into the hands of someone who will appreciate it and drive it more than I do...

Vic Harder 07-13-2012 02:22 PM

I appear to have been photo challenged. Try this link folks!

Vic Harder 07-24-2012 02:28 AM

It looks like I may have found my replacement car for the Miata.

So, I am now even more motivated to sell.

Price reduced to $20K, OBO.

jwmezzanotte 07-28-2012 04:45 PM

Good luck with the sale. Should sell at that price one would think. One province over I payed nearly that for a stock 302, and even then I didn't get that "I overpaid" buyers remorse thing. Hate that feeling...
I think if it doesnt sell at that price then its not a problem with price, maybe there just isnt a buyer out there for it at the moment. I'm sure one will show up.

Vic Harder 08-28-2012 08:52 PM

Price drop to $18,500

Ready for fall driving season? ;-)
