Default Wiring help for a rookie. 5.0 into miata...

What wiring options do I have ? Originally I was planning on using a stock harness with megasquirt ms3.

I'm looking for the least brain damage and most cost effective solution.

I want to run speed density. Have the least fail points in the system. I guess I could just go the easy way and run a carb setup but I like fuel injection.

What do you guys recommend for running speed density ? do they make an emulator for the stock fox body ecu ?

Thanks all!

Reading your post I found I had similar questions. Top of Google search was this very helpful article
http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_arti...ng-pnp-faq.htm

Apparently it plugs right up just need a vacuum line. Then calibrate all the sensors with the software.

Would be great to hear some experience as well.

I took out all of the Miata engine harness. I bought an ms2 and the wiring harness from diy. I bought a factory harness for all of the sensor plugs. This way I will have new wires and tune ability. It is the most cost effective way I could find to have a robust system. You could always find a stock ecu and harness from a mustang and just run it. But the cost of a ford ecu and harness was the same as an ms2 and new wires.

I think I may go this route! With a good factory harness and the pnp megasquirt ecu it should be (hopefully) pretty easy.

What about running the ford engine harness though, can I use the factory mazda fuse box or should I try and find a ford 5.0 harness, and all fuse boxes at a junk yard?

Thanks !

The Ford engine harness does not run through the fuse box. Yes, you can use the existing Mazda fuse box for all of the other crap.

Well don't I feel dumb...lol

What I meant was the fuses for the engine harness. What do I need to run for the ford harness to work? Should I just buy something generic from the parts store that is a basic fuse holder? Did I say i'm a wiring noob? lol Thanks for helping all!

No fuse. The Ford harness has a fusible-link built into the harness where it bolts up to the 12v connection at the starter solenoid (assuming that somebody didn't butcher the original harness).

ah ok! So I don't need to run any additional fuses then? Fantastic! Should be relatively easy ( I hope) with a 5.0 harness, megasquirt plug and play ecu and have mccully clean up the harness and make it hopefully as plug and play as possible for my wiring inept self lol.

I can also take out all the stuff you don't need with the MS2 like EGR and such. Let me know
