WTB 1.8 Brake upgrade parts

As the title states, I am looking for 1.8 brake upgrade parts. I would like to upgrade the brakes on my 90, so I at least need the caliper brackets. If you have rotors and/or pads as well, used or new, I would be interested. Trying to do this on somewhat of a budget for now. Not sure I will have time to make it to junkyard anytime soon. If I find any parts I will update the thread. Thanks.

I have a set of reman fronts with hangers that I picked up before I went the Corrado/Wilwood route. They have never been used. You do need the calipers, not just the hangers on the front. If you want them I can look back in my records and see what I have in them. Right now they are just collecting dust so I'll let you have them for what I paid for them. I picked them up about 2 years ago.

On the rear, you only need a set of 1.8 hangers and a 1994 hardware pack to make the 94 rotors and pads work with your existing calipers. I "may" have a set of used rear hangers lying around, I need to check. If I have a set they can be yours for $40 (for both).

That would be great. Trying to keep costs down, so however you can help out would be appreciated. Let me know what you find. I simply can not drive the car until I upgrade the brakes. It was one of the parts the last owner did not touch, and they car barely stops.

Although it is not cheap, I used the BBK from Monster Miata, & it works great: http://www.monstermiata.com/

I agree that the 1994 and up brakes are the minimum for a street-driven V8 Miata. With good pads, they would probably even work for AutoX. It's only really on the track that I found the need for the larger Corrado rotors.

Martin's BBK is one of the most balanced available that can be used with a parking brake. I’ve driven Morris West’s V8 on the track with this kit and, even with the stock 1990 prop valve, it feels very good. It's also nice that you can source most of the components using his kit from the best priced vendors (the kit only comes with the fitment hardware, you get the rotors, calipers, pads and lines from whoever has the best price). I'd go with his if I tracked more than I do now. I may still since I could reuse my current Wilwoods and lines (save about $300). All I'd need is his kit, the rotors and a set of rear RX-7 calipers.

The only real disadvantage of his kit is the cost of performance rear Gen2 Convertible RX7 pads...

Its a very nice brake kit, and an upgrade I would consider down the road if funds/need were available. For now the car will just be a weekend cruising car, not autox, road racing, drag racing, or drifing...for now lol.

On a side note, after reading numerous threads on other miata forums, it appeared that I simply needed the newer style brackets, and that I could reuse my calipers. Is this misinformation?

That IS misinformation. The 1990 calipers have a different piston location and diameter than the 1.8's. While it is physically possible to swap the calipers side to side and just use new hangers the braking will actually be worse because the pistons will not be located in the center of the pad. I've become tired of correcting people about this on on M.net.

Thank you for the correct answer :) I will make sure to pass on that information anytime I see that question brought up in the future. In fact, I am more than happy to snap some pictures for proof when I swap everything over. Any luck on parts?

I can do $250.00 shipped as long as you're in the U.S. That would include an inused set of reman calipers with hangers and a set of used rear hangers in a flat rate box. I'll pm you my paypal email if that works for you.

If you want a simple upgrade, source the big stock system from a 2002+ sport suspensioned miata with the standard 16 " wheels car, they're much bigger than the 94 and up ones but make sure you get the master cyl. and booster and assort. piping and distributor connected to the master [it has a larger bore],and all brackets and calipers. Many pads are available, including Hawk blues, and many types of these larger rotors other than the stock ones are easily sourced. An easy swap and the emergency still works. They work great.

I have a spare set of 1.8L Brake caliper brackets,

If you're still looking.
