Wiring Harness Question

I recently purchased a '92 NA that I plan on giving a 5.0 heart transplant. The only issue is that the Miata is an automatic. Will I have to do anything differently with the wiring due to this?

No. You will not be reusing any of the Mazda engine wiring except for the tach, oil pressure switch, cooling fan switch, & coolant temp switch. Some use the fuel pump wiring, also (not me). You will be using a Ford Mustang harness that has to be slightly modified, but is very simple to do & is outlined in the assembly manual.

Alright. Thank you very much. I hadn't studied too deeply into the wiring portion of the swap, seeing how I'm probably gonna pay someone to do that part. I've attempted similar jobs on other vehicles, and the moment I start pulling wires out and sifting through colors, I just wanna pass out.

I don't build anything differently into a harness that uses a automatic as a donor. I can even use a automatic mustang harness as a donor. Unless the converted car is going to be an automatic I "hard wire" the harness to operate as a manual.

To use an automatic Miata as a starting point for a manual V8 Miata you'll need a Miata clutch pedal assembly, slave cylinder and shift boot from a junk yard. I'm pretty sure that's it. The master cylinder and line comes with the kit.

Good luck and let me know when you need a converted harness,

-Jason
