Default Spark plugs and wires

What brand and heat range spark plugs are you guys with 5.0 Ford converted Miatas using? Fairly stock, aluminum heads and mild cam upgrade is about it on this car. I've heard that platinum plugs are a no no. While you're at it your recommendation on wires will also be welcomed. - Brad

Hi Brad,

Plug heat range depend on cylinder pressure. Stock cylinder pressure (140-170 psi) run a 5 heat range plug. For performance cylinder pressures (185-200 psi) Use a 6 range heat plug.

There rae many good plug brands out there (i.e. NGK, Bosch, etc.). I use iridium based plugs, same long life as platinum. I have taken a fancy to the new MSD plugs, they provide a very good spark and helped smooth out my idle a little over the NGK Iridium plugs I was using previously. MSD also use Iridium as well.

I use a heat range 6 MSD plug.

For wires you cant go past Taylor Thundervolt 8.2mm spark plug wires. Extremely low wire resistance and excellent quality. They sell complete kits specific for popular models.

Cheers,
