Cruise Control Suggestions?
Let me start a specific CC thread. Anybody out there have any leads on adding cruise to our cars? I tried emailing the guys at these two sites: M&R Electronics & The Cruise Control Store but have received no reply. Since they reference the same 800 number I suspect they are the same company, which makes me feel a little uncomfy.
I'm getting ready to make a trip to Houston in March & really need cruise to save my right knee...oh yeah, it's easier to save my license from speeding tickets, too. |
I've never done an NB but the NA's I've done connect up pretty easy. The cruise uses a seperate computer module than the engine and runs off the speedometer. Hooking it up simply involves hooking up a vacuum lead to it.

You can also use the GM version, as it just uses the tach, brake lights, and clutch switch if I remember correctly.
If you search LS1tech's conversion area, you should find all you need. |
Thanks, guys. Reckon I need to head over to LS1tech & do a search.

Mark me down Geoff, I want Cruise Control again BAD!!
Reasonable & easy to install as possible of course. These back and forth to Phoenix trips leave my right leg crippled by the time I get home. Amazing how just being able to move your foot and leg around a little bit relieves that! - Lee |
Absolutely! I actually considered renting a car for the drive (I hate to fly anymore), but want to show off the car to the Houston Miata Club. Two days of no cruise would not make walking pleasant. OTOH, with my mileage >24mpg, I'll be making frequent stops.

Jared Ohcs at Current Performance in Florida is who did my Harness and PCM program and he is one of the smartest GM tinkers I know. I think I'll drop him an e-mail and see what he suggests
- Lee |
My car hasn't even gone under the knife yet, but count me in on this too, if a solution is found. Living in MN, I'm probably going to skip the AC on the install, but I really would like cruise.
|
OK guys, I just e-mailed Jared and told him we'd probably have a couple of customers if he could come up with something reasonable.
just togive you an idea how good he is he's already selling PCMs and Harnesses to run the New LS9 Blown ZR-1 Motors in anything you want! Needless to say, I respect his opion and work. FYI Steve, I skipped the A/C and never regretted a moment, even in 100+ I'll keep ya posted, literally! - Lee |
Here's an interesting thread, but being a mechanical maladroit, I only understand a little of it. It starts off dealing with GM Cruise-->cable driven TB, but then branches out. LS1tech

Heard Back from Jared, here's what he said;
The simplest way to make the Cruise work on the LS2 engines is to just use the functions in the GM computer. I have attached a schematic for the cruise functions (05 SSR). It is just 4 wires to the computer. The only problem is, it requires certain programs. For instance, if the computer is programmed as a GTO, it will not work. The GTO's do it very differently, but the SSR and Trailblazer programs are pretty simple to make it work. Jared Current Performance Wiring currentperformance.com The Good News, I guess is, there is Nothing to Purchase, to do this, ALL you need is some wiring genius to figure out where the 4 wires need to go, and to WHAT to make it work, if you're lucky enough to NOT be programmed as a GTO! I've attached the 2005 SSR wiring diagram Jared forwarded to further, blow your minds. I understand the 4 wire side TO the Miata's Crusie Control switches, I don't understand from the schematic just Where to "Pick-up" the necessary connections in my particular LS2 PCM's wiring harness. Ideas, ANYONE? - Lee |
Wow, I'm kind of wishing I had an SSR PCM/Harness!
|
It should be similar across the board. Just look at the wiring diagram for your engine's vehicle.
|
I have a 2006 Corvette LS2, a 2005 GTO PCM, a Cadillac CTS-V pedal and a custom tune (could be GTO, Corvette, Cadillac CTS, SSR or Trail-blazer, truck or other) by HP Tuners.
Which vehicle would you suggest I guess it is, since the wiring harness is custom configured, stand alone to my Miata? I should buy a Lottery Ticket too while I'm at it. seriously, I'm researching file info now, but it won't be "similar across the board" for any of us without having the exact configuration is what Jared was saying. Does anybody have any fact based, different take? |
Your "custom tune" is something all the rest of us have. You will have a vin from the GTO, pinout from a GTO, so you will use the GTO's config. What is so difficult about that, or am I missing something?
|
agreed
|
My points were; that I'm not excited about reading pin-outs (provided by somebody credible, hopefully) back at my Main Harness Plugs at the PCM, running the new added leads through my harness & dash, only to find out that my PCM, Platform software might not be compatable, or that other "required' internal programming is either missing or unavailable.
I've made harnesses from scratch and modified OEMs and made dozens of LSXs "Run", Stand-Alone. But I've also run into significant problems I couldn't resolve and consulted Companies "In the Business" that couldn't solve them either. That's all, valid concerns I think. I've always done the homework first, before I dive in. You know what they say about a Breakfast of Bacon and Eggs; "The Chicken's Involved, but the Pig's Committed". |
I contacted my programmer asking about running cruse . he said with the "Trail blaser "PCM it is a matter of hooking up the correct switches, But with the GTO PCM you need the Body Control Module and it is a little mor involved But it can be done.the body control module has to have the VIN Number flashed in to work and once it is flashed it is maried to that vin and cannot be reflashed so a new bcm is in order and finding a dealer to flash the vin that matches the vin in your PCM.then it is a matter of some nornaly open switches.

Geoff, did you ever get cruise to work? Anyone?
This looks promising (other than I already have my GTO pedal mounted): http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread...ntrol-Question |
As a matter of fact, yes, FM has a solution. I'm very happy to say that it works just like the OEM, no surging & my right knee is much happier. It did involve sending in my CC assembly for the manufacturer to work on it.
Gosh, I haven't logged into this site for 2½yrs. :yippee: |
LOL well welcome back safteyfirst! I'm using a audiovox aftermarket unit and love it.

Gosh, I haven't logged into this site for 2½yrs. :yippee: I spoke at length with Adam @ HotRodTherapy (FM's supplier).. super guy, very helpful and open to discuss. He owns an 06' GTO with the LS2 interestingly enough and said he had heard the same I posted above but has yet to see it done successfully.. He also stated that 2 individuals that he spoke with who tried it reports poor throttle response from the SSR/Trailblazer DBW pedal and they wwent back to the GTO/Vette pedal. Per Adam, the 06 GTO LS2 has two options to do it (as far as what he can supply): A - Keep pullout GTO E40 ECU, BCM, PIM and pedal (you need them all). Add his Cruise system ($499 if you need the PIM, $399 if you have it). His cruise system will use stock Miata on/off and stalk but you need to send him all your pieces (ECU, BCM, PIM, on/off and stalk) so he can calibrate and make it work happy together. He did say he can "remarry" BCM and PIM to the ECU, normally you need them all from the same exact car (matching VIN). B - 'Rollback' the GTO LS2 to a Gen III ECU.. this means new wiring harness, new ECU, new pedal. You ditch the BCM and PIM and his addon system becomes $149. From a $$$ perspective, because I have the pullout ECU and harness, the Gen III is more costly (not factoring in any money from selling GTO parts). If you have a pullout with wiring and ECU, option A is the best. If you have a pullout without ECU and wiring, option B since you have to buy a harness and ECU anyhow. If a new crate motor, then you are basically doing option B with the GMPP kit or you can have him do a harness, either way. Wallyman |
FWIW - Decided to go with HotRodTherapy (HRT).. good enough for FM, good enough for me:
Turn around is a couple of weeks. Harness is $624 and cruise is another $399...plus shipping. Couple of important notes for you fools using the GTO pullout like me:
So there ya go. I believe it is still possible (though HRT says highly improbably) to use the BCM/PIM and make it work without his $399 kit. I ahve a bit of info on it but I'm tired of trying to reinvent the wheel to save a buck (or $399 in this case) so I am just handing him a pile of cash to make this problem go away. I hate to spend it but I need to focus my energies on other issues to get the car running (like finishing it for example!). Wallyman |

Old thread, I know... but anyone have a contact number, e-mail address or website for Adam Gunn / HotRodTherapy?
Trying to get a 1991 Speedometer and Cruise Control to work with an LS3. Thanks, -Matt |
