4X100 to 5X114
 

Do you all know of anybody trying to use an 5X114 adapter set up, For a 5 lug conversion? I was wondering if it would be reliable? I found a set for 150.00. At Motorcitybolton.com

It's hard to see how it would work. Especially from the pics on the site. But even if it works, adding 2" per side is a pretty big increase. Ans $150 for 2 is a pretty big hit.

I believe that pic on the website is a general one, because it's a five to five lug adapter,but you're right the price is steep! Thanx for replying.

The pic on the website has a 2 piece set up, the black holes are actually allen head screws that attach to inboard piece that attaches to the original hub, I think.

I have looked at options like that before but there are thinner ones that will only add 1" per side. If you add the $300 bucks these spacers will cost to your wheel budget can't you find wheels you like that are right for the car? What is the goal of going to 5 lug?

You might want check out Mikes (cvx20 from ^ above) car. He came up with a really sweet set up using Rx7 hubs in front and I forgot in the rear.

The goal for five lugs is to have a greater tire and rim selection, wider tire better grip and larger brake rotors for stopping.

You don't gain anything for tires because the widest decent 23" tall street tire you can get in any size is 225 and that's pretty wimpy. You can go wider if you go to 16 or 17" wheels but you have to go taller than 23" to do it. A lot of guys feel 17s look wrong on an NA or NB but If you can live with a 25" tall tire on 17s there are some great options at 255/40/17 that will put 10" on the ground. That is 2" wider and 2" taller than most guys run and I doubt you could stuff that much tire under it with out flairs or raising the car. But I would really like to see someone try it!

For brakes there is no need to go to bigger wheels. All the big brake kits available from places like Flyin and Moss will fit under 15" wheels.

No question you pick up lots of options for wheels to go to a 5 lug plus IMO 5 lugs just look better - or more normal than 4. But then I am old and used to seeing 5 lugs and usually 5 spokes on anything worth driving...

Well...after a lot of research and dreaming, I have decided to go with the 4-lug set up. I recently ordered a set of 15X9 Konig dial end rims. I am contemplating a 225/45r 15 in the front and a 275/50r 15 in the rear. I would cut the rear fenders and use fender flares. The diameter of the 275 is 25.5 inches and Think stock is 22.7 inches. For an "nb" car. What you all think?

What are you going to do with the car? Are you ever going to autocross it or do any performance driving that is not in a straight line?

Well..I guess from your post my idea isn't good for track days huh ? I'm a novice, I just love the way those 275's look. 275/50's in the front, would make the car look like it has 17" rims, too big for my taste. Thnx for your input.

Exactly. It's kind of hard to say with out knowing what the car is and what are going to do with it how much it will hurt you. And I am no expert in staggered sizes by any means. Thing is if you are a V8 conversion you are already a bit out of balance with it and there is no question that much difference in your contact patch is going to make the balance much worse. Miatas were not designed for staggered sizes and as I understand it are rather sensitive to it.

I agree on 17s are huge on these cars but the concept is growing on me only for the tire options available. Have you seen turbotylas build with the 17x10s on the NB? It's pretty sweet but even with just 235s it's tight in the front. Anyway what tires are you going to run in those sizes? I have never seen anything but track tires in 275/50-15.

Nitto nt555 is a drag radial for 275/50r15. On my way to work, I noticed my mini van uses a 215/70r15 the side wall is substantial, the 50 series might look odd on the little miata.

If you are a drag racer I say go for it. That is the right look for the car, especially if you happen to have a blower though the hood... :D

But you are not locked into the bigger rear size. Just get 2 more to match the fronts and you can have the best of both worlds with just the swap of a couple of tires.

If you don't mind the mechanical work, RX-7 hubs and the RX-7 differential will work, giving you 5x4.5 bolt circle and a bigger, stouter differential.

I went big and have no regrets. It handles great, spins less and turns lots of heads. I have not had it on one of those tracks to see how it handles vs other miatas set up for tracks. My only reference point is my 95 z28 and a 80 corvette. It handles better than both of them. The car is a lot safer to drive now vs the smaller tires I had on there before. I have 245 45 16's on front and 315 35 17's on rear. Yes it required major reconstruction of the rear fenders and I ordered a pair of wider ones for the front. If you look close it looks like there are 8 lugs holding on the wheels. The 4x100 lugs are holding the wheel on and the other ones are dummies I put on there cause the empty space looked bad.

It is possible to go faster with smaller tires. Ask gatorbait (he kicked my butt at the Texas Motorplex however he has an extra 150 hp and I did beat him to the 60 ft mark) I'm saving up for a turbo then I will be ready for a rematch. Gator, I know you will read this....Please answer the phone when I call this spring I want a rematch because I can't stand being a loser. LOL

I had a lot of racers tell me to get one set of tires for the strip and one for the street. I don't like changing tires and when I go to the strip...I want to know how fast my street car is with the tires that are on it.
