Laguna Paint Matching
 

I've managed to match the paint after cutting the hood webbing out on a 93 LE (simple black), a 1990 white (Krylon White Gloss) and even a 1990 silverstone (Duplacolor aluminum cast-coat engine paint). I now have a '94 Laguna and don't even know where to start. Has anyone with a Laguna found a good spray paint that matches well enough to match the underside of the hood? Lee?

Most automotive paint distributors can give you a custom match in a spray can. Should be ideal for what you're trying to do.

That's true but the "book" at autozone at least only goes back to the mid 1990's. I'll check out the local Advance auto adn Pepboys to see if there's goes back further but if anyone has already found a good match please let me know.

What you really need is the specialty automotive paint stores that sell to the paint and body shops. They can match paint to the paint codes on the door or scan a sample that you bring in, like the gas filler door. Obviously, they would like to sell you a gallon or at least a couple of quarts, but most of them also have the means to load a spray can.

Etouchup.com give them your paint code and they'll sell it to you in a rattle can for $20 or so.

I guess I've been lucky, my Laguna Blue 94' has been painted several times, right front fender door and right rear quarter after barrier wall encounter at laguna seca, and now after complete body work and complete re-paint.

I had two cut-outs from my hood (for louvers) I saved and my car has always been garage kept. I've used different vendors, different paint manufacturers and the Use of these panels to aid match and the Body Paint Code 6W, it's been a perfect match every time. Biggest risk was my Rear deck Spoiler was order Pre-Painted (from Florida) by Body code only, it was a perfect match.

Last paint was NAPA Martin-Seymore mix and it's great. Your under-hood always looks different because it's never illuminated by any direct sunlight, it's always shadowed and light relects off engine components and changes the colors the eye perceives. Getting it close is all I can see ever happening, I even considered at one point just painting the hood under-side Satin Black and calling it good.

My car is a Street driven, Track toy, so my attitude Jason, is that it's More Tool , than Show. just my opinion.

What are you guys paying to have the cars resprayed? Friend deal or a "took it to the autobody shop" deal?

We did all the body work & paint in my little one car garage, total cost about $600.00 in materials.

I went with the Etouchup.com suggestion above. For $50 or so I got a rattle can of basecoat, a rattle can of clear and a touch-up bottle of each as well. The paint matched exactly! Highly recomended to anyone looking to make their conversion look OEM. I only wish I had know about them when I did the last 3 builds!

I haven't had any problems with matching at all, it's the easiest match of any metallic paint I've had on a car. Here's another one for you, I ordered a trunk deck spoiler, on-line from Spoiler Depot in Florida, the "Painted" option was so cheap I decided to Risk It (figured I could repaint if there was a problem). It was a Perfect match!

Interesting thing about this color, even though it's Basic, is that it really assumes alot of different colors, hues under different lighting conditions. Laguna Blue always gets positive comments at the track & shows and many people actually think it's custom paint.
