First track day and new look

Got the top and hood wrapped in digital cammo. Looks interesting. Think I will drop the yellow accent and wrap the a-pillar and mirrors also.

I also had a chance for my first track day. Few minor issues:

1- Water pump seal started leaking just a bit on the top. I'm gonna try and re-tighten and add some RTV. If not fixed, then new gasket.

2- Speed sensor gasket is leaking causing tranny fluid to drop onto cross pipe. Makes a good smoke screen. Time for new gasket.

The major issue starts to occur when the car gets hot. It is good for about 5 laps, and then it starts to studder. Under acceleration in 3rd gear it will loose power and hesitate. When I let off or drive easy, it is ok. I believe it has to be a fuel issue. Someone suggested vapor lock from the fuel lines running too close to the exhaust. Because it only happens after heating up, I am trying to figure out what is getting hot.

Other than that, car ran at normal temps. The cowl hood really seems to help.

Any suggestions with hesitation would be welcomed.

Many a problem has indeed been caused by fuel lines too close to headers. However, I would expect issues to arise more with hot start than when under a hard pull on the track. Under a hard pull there should be enough fuel moving through the line to cool it, unless it is really close to the header.

I don't know if your engine is Ford, Chevy, or something else, or if it's running a carb or fuel injection. If it is a 5.0L EFI Mustang engine, the first thing I would look at is the TFI module. They are notorious for acting up when hot. They use the distributor body for a heat sink and the distributor gets hot enough under continuous, hard load to encourage TFI failure.

If that turns out to be your problem, Jason (MRM331) sells a remote heat sink with wiring that will prevent reoccurrence.

Is your fuel tank building up a lot of pressure? Mine did, & it caused the same symptoms. I took the gas cap apart & cleaned the vent on it. Also blew out the EVAP hose from the charcoal canister to the tank with compressed air (BE SURE TO LEAVE THE GAS CAP OFF WHEN DOING THIS). Now it works great.

Ford 302 EFI. I have Jason's TFI relocation kit installed. Fuel and brake lines in engine bay are wrapped down the firewall to where they turn under the car. Headers are wrapped. Plugs are insulated with thermal covers, and wires are hi-temp.

And when I think about it, the tank hissed at me pretty good when I removed cap to add fuel. I have the charcoal canister removed and just an open line in the engine bay. Ill try cleaning the cap and blowing that line out back to the tank. Maybe I will put some sort of filter on the end of that line in the engine bay so I know a wasp or something did not crawl in there to make a home.

Have you changed out both the fuel filter and the in tank fuel pump/pick up?

Also, have you checked to see if your distributor is tightened down and has not moved off the timing marks you set?

No help here, just wanted to say that I love the fastback hard top. That's sweet.

Have a new high flow fuel pump and strainer sitting on the bench. I will throw it in next week. Have an F1 race in Austin, TX to attend this weekend.:smilie_daumenpos:

Also had a slight issue shifting (up and down) into 3rd and 4th when RPMs were high. Dont know if that has to do with clutch not releasing fully, or I need a racing clutch.
