1991 Now Exempt From Emissions. Cool

When I bought the 1991 in November, 2014, the prior owner had just done an emissions test on the car for selling purposes I would guess. When I registered/titled the car here in Georgia, they used that emissions certificate and said I could use that same certificate for my first renewal as long as it was within a year of the certificate date. I had them double check this. They said the mail in renewal form would not have the indication an emissions certificate would be needed. And they take the certificate paper from me to put "on file".

Great! No need to plan any emissions related stuff into the build because a new certificate is not needed for the 2015 renewal and the car will be over 25 years old for the 2016 renewal. Perfect.

Fast forward to this week and the renewal shows up in the mail with the requirement of emissions testing indicated. What? Crap... Now I am planning how and the heck am I going to add cats, EGR, whatever it takes to get this thing to pass emissions. Not happy.

So I went to the tag office and handed her the renewal form and questioned the need for emissions (I have no paper since they took it from me last year). She said "it is on file and good to October 30, 2015. You are all set"

Sweet! Since the car will be over 25 years old next year, it is now exempt!

Overall as it turns out, it saved a lot of money and time not having to plan for or include all that emissions stuff.
