Transmission Options for LS(x) Swap

yeah yeah, i know, T56. they are overpriced, and getting hard to find. Keisler sells new ones for basically $500 more than a used unknown condition one.

what other options are there? T-5? TKO? TK6060? the 6060 is semi remote shifter, does it really pose that much of a problem?

biggest problem i see with something like a T5 or TKO is having to use a steel bellhousing to adapt the trans to the engine. they are much fatter and dont taper down to the trans anywhere near as aggressively as the F-body T56 bellhousing. i'm not interested in cutting sheet metal out of the trans tunnel.

Talk to V8R if your serious about the swap. They have a few customer cars and what not with the LS1/T5 setup

I don't think you can beat Hawks 3rd Gen for their price on used T56's.

Whatever I run it's gonna have a steel SFI certified bellhousing.
Have any of you seen what a clutch/flywheel explosion looks like?

I have a Lakewood SFI certified bell in my Cobra and it gives me great peace of mind, especially considering the clutch is about mid-thigh in that car.
I'm really attached to my legs. :-)

Summit sells the steel conversion bell you need for around $500 IIRC. Considering you can pick up a used T-5 for under $300 if you look hard enough the price of the bell is more than offset by your savings over a T-56. Who needs 6 gears anyhow??

Here's one option:

This may work:

I've seen both of these cheaper at other sites.

Why yes I have...
Seen parts go down, seen parts go right up through the firewall & hood. Clutch explosions can be quite an alarming event with out a scattershield.
Saw part of a plantary (A/T-braked 727) go through a floor once and trash a guys leg...
